The Old Man And The Gun. I was expecting a comedic crime cape, but it's actually deeper than that. Redford does a star turn as an old man bank robber and his smile is still the best thing in movies and Casey Affleck as the good natured cop out to catch him is great. As really are all the other well known names, it's just that they don't have roles to stretch them.

Default The Meg (2018)

The Meg (2018)

What on earth possessed me to watch this crapola when we are in winter FFS! I couldn't get that WW2 zombie movie Overlord on iTooonz 'cause it aint out yet thats why!#@^%@%$!

Actually I was indeed looking for "something" that was a bit on the exploitation crapola side of things and this was like a made for TV movie you could watch at 2pm with your grand parents!

We have Jason Statham which is no bad thing in these kind of movies....
Pretty good CG shark fx, better than I expected.....and then.....thats about it.
Forget about the "plot" and the "mission", the potential for some real horrific deaths were sadly not exploited enough lets be honest here! Sharknado may not have the budget but it was more entertaining! so what does that tell you! I dig these kind of films but always feel let down and lets get honest again, there needed some gratuitous T&A in peril moments with gals built like Gianna Michaels ! who happened to be in Piranha3D no less, satisfying us in those depts!

"Where's the tits 'n gore dammit!" rating 3/10

Crazy Rich Asians. Basically an old fashion romcom, just set in Singapore instead of New York, but a very entertaining and funny romcom. Michelle Yeoh is terrific as she always is and Gemma Chan is even more gorgeous if that's possible. But for my money, Nico Santos as Ollie steals it.
There's rich, obscenely rich and having more money than god.

Threads was good, but around the same time there was a British mini series on the same theme that was even better and certainly much grimmer. I can't recall what it was called though.

Default Top 10 Anticipated Movies of 2019

A few posts back I reviewed my 10 best and 10 worst movies of 2018. Now I want to look ahead to ten films that have caught my interest via trailers & what I've gleaned from the internet. In no particular order....

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part - I enjoyed the first and loved the spinoff Lego Batman, so I have a keen interest in this follow-up.

Captain Marvel - The first female led entry into the MCU was teased a bit in an end credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War and all the trailers promise an action-packed movie. Brie Larson is the titular character.

Avengers: Endgame - We all want to know what happens and I suspect this will be the box office champ for this year.

Godzilla: King of Monsters - The big bad lizard is back and ready to kick more monster butt. I wonder what city gets wasted this time around.

Men In Black: International - So the MiB's are not just an American thing in this sequel(?) to the hit original. I guess 2 and 3 are not talked about which suits me just fine.

Toy Story 4 - My first reaction was "why another one" when the series was wrapped up so perfectly with that emotional ending of the third. But, if Pixar can maintain it's high standards, I'm sure many more tears will be shed.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 - Enjoyed the first one, so I hope the second will be just as good.

Spider-Man: Far From Home - So, I'm guessing that our web-slinging hero doesn't die after all in Infinity War. Of course he doesn't not if he's in this sequel and swinging through Europe.

The Lion King - Another "live action" retelling of a Disney animated gem. And if the movie looks as good as the trailer then it will be a smash hit.

Star Wars: Episode IX - I pray that J.J. Abrams can bring the series back to it's former glory.

So which ones are you looking forward to?

Korengal (2014) An Afghani War Documentary from the maker of Restrepo (2010). 86% from critics, 65% from viewers. Not a ton of fighting, mainly interviews of the 20 odd soldiers in one specific position. I didn't really see much of the Taliban, but of course no cameraman wants to die for this documentary.

The young guys - of the 173rd Airborne Brigade - talked a lot about their brotherhood. Their small base - looked like a cold, exposed position. The soldiers who said they would drop everything to go back there - to be with their comrades made me scratch my head. They are made of tougher stuff than me. They didn't seem to question why they were there or what exit strategy made sense. They just did what they were told. The casualties they suffered to fulfill their orders didn't seem worth it to me.

I am grateful we have troops like them, I just wish they didn't suffer so much for so little. Film ended up depressing me. Watching Restrepo earlier had started me on this "get out of Afghanistan and Iraq" mindset. This film builds upon it. "12 Strong" (2018) hasn't changed my mindset.

If the Brits and the Russians couldn't control that part of the world, we would be highly arrogant to think that we could. Only the Chinese method of exterminating their opponents and moving in their own population to outnumber the remaining inhabitants would work - and we wouldn't do that there.

Default "Y Tu Mama Tambien" [2001]

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245574/
I don't know how I missed this when it came out, but its fantastic. I'm going to say that its the best sexually explicit and arousing movie I've ever seen. Maribel Verdu is the hottest thing on the planet, and even if the two guys are scrawny runts, still, this is genius.

The sex is hot, but the real story unfolds on the edge of the frame, a corrupt Mexico and the entitled rich who sail through it, blissfully unaware of the pain around them. Mixing this story with the complicated sex triangle has to be seen, a great movie all around

plenty of hard R clips from the film in Maribel Verdu's thread here:
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...d.php?t=111837

. . . but its really worth watching the movie start to finish. Mexicans are making my favorite movies . . .

Branded to Kill (1967)

Trailer

Goro Hanada (Joe Shishido), ranked third among Japan's most skillful hitmen, may not be a panty sniffer but boy does he love the smell of boiling rice. He's hired to escort a client but is ambushed by other hitmen who kill his partner. After his car breaks down, Hanada meets the mysterious Misako (Annu Mari) who hires him for a snuff. Being a professional assassin is a job that does not forgive errors which is exactly what Hanada makes during a job when a butterfly (yes, a butterfly) lands on the barrel of his rifle that makes him miss his target and shoot an innocent bystander. He loses his rank and becomes a target himself. The man hired to dispose of him is the ominous Number One.

An ok B movie from the 60s with a confusing plot. The main actor Joe Shishido walks around with artificial cheeks and I don't quite see the point of that but it seems to be his trademark.
