Wolverhampton Wanderers
I hope Wolves do stay up. It looks like being a struggle for them, as it is for most clubs first year back.
Wolves have a great history, their golden age being the 1950's. Football must have been so good then. With Stan Cullis Wolves would win the League three times and the FA Cup twice between 1949 and 1960. They had a few near misses for the League as well. It was at this time that the European Cup competition was established, after the English press declared Wolves "Champions of the World" following their victories against such top European and World sides as South Africa, Racing, Spartak Moscow, and Honvéd in some of football's first live televised games. Great strip too. |

Ray Baartz
I like this story about Ray Baartz, who played for Australia 1967-1974.
In 1963 he joined Man Utd as a 17 year-old and played with them until 1966. He was in the Reserves side, which doesn't sound all that great you might think. Every member of that Utd Reserves team was a current International, an ex-International, or a future International. And the bloke Ray Baartz was keeping out of the side was Brian Kidd. So Kidd was playing in Thirds! That says something about what a tough school it is and how good you have to be to play at the top level. Ray Baartz was Australia's #1 Striker when they qualified for the World Cup in West Germany. Australia played a warm-up game against Uruguay. I hesitate to use the word Friendly. Australia won, but during the game one of the Uruguay players struck Baartz with a karate chop to the throat. It damaged his carotid artery, he nearly died, and never played again. Australia's part-timers naturally missed their best player in the Finals. They were in a pretty hot group though- West Germany, East Germany, and Chile. |

Very interesting eelcat! ............ my missus is Romanian and I have Steaua Bucharest hats, scarves, key rings. In fact, you name it ......... and I bloody have it!
Keep telling her I am a Forest fan, but she insists on buying me bloody Steaua socks for my birthday EVERY year! Can't be many people in England who have Steaua has there 'second' team? By the way, you're showing your age again Eelcat ..... I can well remember Stan Bowles at Forest ...... he and his 'then' girlfriend (can't remember her bloody name!) were living about 500 yards from myself. Think he liked his booze and bookies ..... but a great player! Thanks and keep sending your views |

WELCOME TMEE2000

Wolves certainly have an illustrious history no doubt. Thank God I can't remember Billy Wright playing, but I can remember seeing him on the T.V. quite alot in my younger days. My dad used to tell me about Stan Cullis (he was a bit of an 'hard-nut' so my dad told me? Really hope Wolves stop up this season .... they are not doing so bad .... but, I think its a MUST they win their home games. Like you say: 'beautiful stadium and colours' and they fit pretty well into the top division. Don't know why? ... but when I think of Wolves I think of Derek Dougan and Steve Bull ...... God, I bet they must be 'gods' down at Molyneux! Welcome again Tmee and keep sending your views on anything 'football' |

WELCOME DORCEL!
Quote:
Yeah, see what you mean Dorcel ........... don't quite get this finance in football? ........ If you ask me .... these 'so-called' football saviours are just 'fly-by-nights' .... now you see em .. now you don't! You will have to explain, if you have time, how the hell can they win the F.A. Cup one season and the next be in so much trouble both 'on' and 'off' the pitch? Thanks again and keep the thread informed yeah! |

That would be a sight..Man Utd to go in to administration/recievership and start the next season at -30 points.
(The bastards would still avoid relegation I bet ) |

I support Leeds United, which has given me some experience of how high and how low you can go when following your team. Relegation to League One (bullshit alert, its League Division Three with a fancy name) was the ultimate comedown, or so I thought. But no...Leeds didn't comply with the FA's insolvency rules when the new season began and so we played from -15 points. I don't recollect any club starting with minus points before Leeds did in 2007-8, but it has set a trend which I don't like. What Leeds achieved that season was very remarkable indeed. They won their first 12 games on the bounce. How bitter it was to be beaten in the playoff final by Doncaster Rovers and yet Leeds were three points away from automatic promotion after starting on -15. However, with only 10 points deducted, Luton Town and Bournemouth FC were both relegated from League One that year. Poor old Luton were in freefall and would have gone down regardless, however Bournemouth would have survived with those extra 10 points.
But docking a team 30 points at the start of a season is almost tantamount to relegating them a year in advance. I feel for any team in this position. In my opinion, 15 should be the maximum points deduction. Any more and you are almost sure to be mortally wounding that club's league survival prospects and you are skewing the competition in the whole league so that the real dud clubs in the division will be unjustly spared the danger of relegation. The relegation dogfight can be the best part of the competition, it is the sort of sport in which you get to see what the players are really made of. Frankly, I hate points deductions anyway and I fear that, with so many clubs on shaky financial foundations, we're going to see it more and more.

germany will win the WC!!
they`ve been in the 2002 wc final ...3rd place in 2006 and 2nd in the euro final in 08. and: the new young players --- joining the xperienced players like ballack, mertesacker and klose--- are technical the best ones germany ever had!! theay were alway able to FIGHT but had a lack of technique and creativity-BUT now with özil, marin, schweinsteiger, boateng they kill the other teams...trust me. |
