Going to the airport for an 8 hours and 27 minutes 4,834 miles evening flight to London Heathrow, leaving in 2 hours and 47 minutes from now.
It's 3:09 pm here. We will arrive about 8:30 am London time. We had a choice of 2 airlines. One uses 2 engines 777-300ER and one uses 4 engines 747-400. We picked the 4 engines. Don't want to be somewhere over the Atlantic ocean when one of 2 engines goes out. 4 engines you can probably lose 2 of them and still fly to land. I am going by this show Bizarre Foods recommending these places in London to eat. For Pies and Mash: For Sunday's Roast: For Fish and Chips: For Chicken Tikka Masala: For Sticky Toffee Pudding: For Afternoon Tea complete with sandwiches and sweets: Cheers, Mates! |

The best place for Roast Beef is Simpsons in the Strand. Expensive but heavenly.

If you want proper fish & chips, go to a chippy - a take-away shop that specialises in them. Don't get them at a restaurent or pub - they are never the same, and will cost you a helluva lot more for less. Many chippies have a seating area, and often wait staff so you can eat in.

British chippies always switch the fryer on before they open and cook a few fish so that they can drain the fat on a hot plate, meaning the fish is already cooked so no waiting, there's no soggy fat and you don't have to wait a as long for it to cool down enough to eat. Having said that, not all British chippies are good at doing fish. Chips from either of these can be a bit soggy, so t's best to look at the chips given to any customer in front of you. Chips from restaurants can be drier and crisper on the outside and fluffier on the inside but there ain't any gaurantees.

Takeaway Battered Fish (with chips) is not 'British' anymore and it's not 'fresh'
But it still tastes good. It's Norwegian or Icelandic. That's where all the Cod (and Haddock) comes from now deep frozen for possibly months. Due to overfishing by mainly the British North Sea Fleet (now largely defunct) and climate change. You can't blame the foreigners for this one. Some Cod is still caught in the UK but the supply is so unreliable that no Fish and Chip shop can depend on it. Many Fish mongers (like my cousin's) also say that their cod etc is local but it's not and much is also farmed abroad and not even wild. They lie. Most sea fish caught now in the UK is small Dover sole and plaice (no good for fish and chips) which is exported to France, Belgium and the Netherlands. |

Which speaks to the monarch being more than a sexual being. In the 21st century this mysticism is just a memory, but Britain has had gay kings before, James I most famously, but there are suggestions all the way back to Aethelstan (maybe) |

Thank you for all the eateries recommendations.
We are back home in the USA now. I am just now logging into VEF for the first time since Thursday afternoon. Couldn't be looking at porn websites with my wife around. Will save your recommendations for next time we go to London. I have been to London over a dozen times before including I was there for the 2012 Olympics but each time I visit, I just find it strange. Much the same feeling I get when I visit New York City. |
