I tend not to. I feel a bit strange about it. Maybe it's the Catholic in me. I remember the night Anna Nicole-Smith died I thought I could actually hear the sound of millions of JPEGS and AVIs being dragged into desktop trashcans all over the world. I might make an exception when Raquel Welch dies though - can't imagine EVER not knocking one out over her. That would, indeed, be the ultimate test.

First and foremost any travel in the world of retro porn is a travel in the fictive worlds of our own imagination - where porn stars never get old and will never die...

Excellent thread.
I agree with the tone of many of the previous posts. Porn stars, lads' mag / p*ge 3 models / P***boy centrefolds etc, are all adults who've produced their images and / or video willingly, knowing exactly what effect it will have on the viewer, and what it will be used for. As someone else has said, it's actually a tribute to the high standard of their work that we're still turned on by it all these years later. This is true whether the models are no longer living, or are still alive, but no longer working in the industry. Surely the whole point of a model agreeing to have her youthful physique immortalised, in stills or on video, is precisely so that we can enjoy it in years to come (so to speak). I'm friends on a networking site with a former p*ge 3 girl who really appreciates the attention from fans, and likes the fact that her images are still admired by devotees, many years after she posed for them. In the case of models who are no longer living, we can still see the images the same way, regardless of what happened to the model. I don't know many blokes who don't find Marilyn Monroe a turn-on, nearly 50 years after her death! |

I want to remember the models as they were -- in their prime, young, in good health, and at a time long before personal problems or life choices (abusive relationship, drug abuse, prostitution, getting HIV from being too sexually active, etc.) or circumstances beyond their control got in the way that lead to their premature deaths. So yes, there are models I still appreciate to this day, no matter how much time has passed and if they're physically here with us or not. Marilyn Monroe's famous nude still gets a lot view time for me, and it's nearly 60 years old!
There are some exceptions, of course. There are deceased models here and there that I never cared too much for, despite their popularity. And their daily, lurid tabloid headlines did very little in the way of furthering my interest in them. I passed over them when they were alive and even more so that they're no longer with us. The only one that I can say I wouldn't or couldn't, um, "do it to" would be Dorothy Stratten. She was certainly one of the best there ever was. But she was married to a creep, her life story was too much in the spotlight in the aftermath, and her death was a bit too much to bear, especially since it was graphically recreated in Star 80. Neither her estate nor Peter Bogdanovich wants to ever let go of the subject, continually blaming Hef for the whole thing. |

I made the mistake of pointing out that Savannah had died while watching one of her films together...that didn't go over well...

you may have to do that just to get the coffin lid closed. On the other hand, if I should run into a D. Jordan, or N. Banus whereever I land, i'm sure it will all come back to me...
