Cliff Richard: Singer wins BBC coverage case at High Court
Sir Cliff Richard has won his privacy case against the BBC over its coverage of a police raid on his home.
High Court judge Mr Justice Mann awarded an initial £210,000 in damages. The singer claimed the BBC's reporting of the 2014 raid, which was part of an investigation into historical child sex allegations, was a "serious invasion" of privacy. Sir Cliff was never arrested or charged over the allegations, which dated back to 1985. The judge said the BBC had infringed Sir Cliff's privacy rights in a "serious" and "sensationalist" way. Hmm after all that trauma perhaps Sir Cliff needs a summer holiday for a lot longer than a week or two.

While this is all well and good it is not the commissioning editor or anyone else at the BBC who will have to pay this £210,000 fine.
Just about all the funding for the BBC comes from the UK public (with some from the EU for propaganda purposes). Almost everyone has to pay the licence fee. This is by law with punishment of jail ultimately if the licence fee is not paid. I might be wrong or out of date with this, it is just my initial reaction...please correct me if I am wrong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Televi...United_Kingdom |

You are technically right judy84 but as with so many things they use a velvet fist in a cotton wool glove
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...ng-guidelines/ I believe if the BBC start to run short of £ they are considering taking away the exemption for Attic dwellers not to have a TV licence as they don't tend to watch the BBC just the odd seedy adult channels .... or so I've heard

Trial By Media
I'm not a fan of Cliff's music, I don't share his God interest and I don't know if he's gay or not. I have met him and he really is a very nice, genuine person. Having read some of the evidence against him, it was (IMHO) total bollocks and plod/CPS should have been ashamed even considering it. But they steamed ahead as any big celeb was worth a shake-down. Then the Beeb was tipped off about the raid. And they have a lengthy history of fucking up peoples reputations and careers by reporting details they shouldn't on TV and treated it like entertainment.
Most recently, a nurse was named and virtually accused on TV of being a mass murderer, without any evidence. Prior to that there have been many others. Paul Gambaccini is just one celeb given a very hard time, who comes to mind. And meanwhile, the court injunction still stands regarding reporting of possibly Britain's best known music artist and his sex life and the leading actor in a internationally famous period drama who had a taste for very expensive prostitutes and liked being pegged by them. It's certainly nice having high level connections and the best law firms available, because you can stop the media reporting almost immediately in most of the UK. Of course, in the case of Cliffy, the damage was swift and people who simply didn't like his music were ready to jump on the bandwagon and say they always knew he a bit of a perv. Sadly, the BBC News reporting is now close to "out of control" and starts to look like an attempt at social engineering more often than not. We've just had a week or two of Trump bashing at every opportunity, with smirking John Sopel trying his best not to make snide comments about the POTUS and Panorama trying to smear Trump's sex life. That's not to say I'm a huge fan of Trump, but anything to please the snowflakes seems okay with the BBC. I just wonder how many BBC viewers have been aware of the serious French riots in Nantes, the same in Northern Ireland, the Irish Government attempt at Jew bashing that took US intervention to stop, the extra British troops sent to Afghanistan, many more knifings that are no longer reported and so-on. All conveniently ignored! The BBC is out of control and personally, I would love to see this bloated, we-know-best abomination forced into privatisation. |

Great to see those kids back as a team after their terrible ordeal in the caves of Thailand-all of them mini heroes and hopefully they won't be hounded by the press and media too much.
Also noticed that the Now That's What I Call Music compilation records/tapes/cds etc will be reaching an historic 100th edition. Does anybody have any of these? If I remember correctly the advert had the late Brian Glover doing the voice-over "20 piggin' hits" and a picture of a pig in a tweed jacket on the cover of the albums. I know one person who has two of those original vinyl albums.
