Yes, dupes can be a pain – though I suspect trying to remove them all could end up being an even bigger pain for those who’d have to do it.
Agreed. Some model threads (for example, the Christy Canyon thread) have masses of duplicate and even triplicate posts. Let's bear in mind two factors:
  • There are currently 1,793 replies in that thread.
  • There is no forum rule against "farrago posting".
By "farrago posting" I mean images in a post which are not part of a single set. If you were going to make such a post, would you honestly look through 1,793 replies to make sure you weren't posting any dupes? Of course you wouldn't. And as glamourfan points out, it would be equally impossible for an admin to spot and delete all the dupes.

Since this forum doesn't host the images, it's not possible to organise them into sets and index them. The only solution that I can see is to ban "farrago posting" and only allow "single set posting" and fills for single sets.

In another forum I'm a member of (I won't name it here) they run a theme of the month contest and quite a few of the posters have the same pics. It can be a bother, but I simply shrug it off as they all have it so why not post it.

An exception to this is one may post it in LQ or MQ and then someone else will post a version that is HQ or UHQ. This works for me as I prefer the latter anyway.

When I first found this website I wanted to share some of my collection of pics. I've been collecting on Usenet for twenty years so I have lots to share. I posted in a few threads - yes, I confess I did not scan every post of every of the hundreds of pages in each of those threads.

Almost immediately some big man on campus complained right in the thread about dupes. I said to myself "You know what? Fuck this". I deleted my posts and happily became a non-contributing leech. Yet, I see other numerous threads that have plenty of dupes that pass without comment. Just today I saw someone post a dupe in their own thread.

VEF is an outstanding site that would be even better without some of the attitude.

Wink If & Where you can, add some detail

I haven't yet read on this thread about the usefulness to all following posting members of adding a
Title / Publication / Issue Number / Event or Date

it really helps a dupe check when a previously made post can be identified in a 'thread search' or when switching to 'Hybrid Mode' and using a browsers 'find' function. This is not possible when members are posting no details, just pictures

Until it becomes a rule that the Mods have to enforce
attention to detail will nearly always only occur occasionally

Typically those that wish to stand out from the crowd will do it

Its like uploading a film or clip and giving a personal review - positive or negative
which very few people ever seem to do

We see with movies & clips there is a bare minimum of detail thats required
but not for images

As i've been finding out recently larger in size doesnt always mean better quality

Plenty of obscure websites about in an effort to maximise profits via reduced bandwidth have increased size to give the illusion of better pics but the resolution is far poorer.

Most recent example
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...6&postcount=50

How do you choose which stays and which goes

I continually find people thanking the original 600x-800x small sample gallery pics
but ignoring the 1600x+ full set even when its quality is miles superior.

1 size and quality does not seem to fit all

Most likely comes down to the fact we're not all connecting to the internet via
fast broadband nor have unlimited accounts.

The computers about are everything from the mid 90s to now so increased size and quality
is something that cant really be used for anything but making avatars, montages etc.
