Not saying we need some big enquiry or restructuring or nuffin'. Jeez!
Agree that the ECB need to look at the restructuing of the domestic game, the worrying thing though is that the board seem to be reluctant to believe that they are not doing a great job!

Of course the ECB are doing a great job.

Read only a few days ago that Glamorgan have been handed £2.5m not to bid for any Test cricket between 2020 and 2024 (think I got the dates right). They have called it 'compensation'. Wonder that other counties who have not been awarded any Test matches think of that.

The fall-out from 'Tape-Gate' continues.

Smith has been fined 100% of his match fee and banned for one test. Bancroft has been fined 75% of his match fee and been handed a demerit point.

Not a terrible deterrent is it ? Mind you the Australian PM is furious and this may not end here.

Pathetic 'punishment'. Attempting to cheat should have got the captain, and anyone else involved fined 100% of their tour fees and banned for a year from all cricket, with the captain being punished much more if he refused to name the others involved, and if he didn't name them and they didn't step forward it would show they have little sense of honour in not stopping there captain being punished as much, so the whole team should be banned for a year.

Look at the punishment them cricketers got a few years ago and all they did was step over the crease when bowling at certain points in the game etc. I don't think what they did could really affect the result of any match.

Cricket Australia will have the last word on the punishment the various participants receive. Speaking only for myself I sense that a sense of proportion is somewhat lacking here. There is a lot of venom in the air and it's understandable, but needs to be kept under control in case anger clouds judgment. This is not the worst episode of unsportsmanlike conduct I have heard of in cricket; far from it. So yes, punish the players involved, but it's not a hanging offence. Michael Clarke (ironic spokesman for sportsmanship I have to say) did make a very valid point, that it was extremely unfair that the senior players delegated the actual act to such a junior player as Cameron Bancroft. That is valid, and a strong reason why Steve Smith should receive a much worse punishment, as should several others. But when it comes to the fucking prime minister pontificating, I sense injustice in the air and it makes me unwilling to follow the pack on this one.

The bigger picture

Australian cricket TV rights 5 year deal 500 million currently being discussed
Tests , one dayers , T20 big bash etc

CA want 1 billion

Free to air bidders want to pay much less

CA threatening to give more to Murdochs Foxtel (payTV)

Anything handed out to Smith & Warner will be damage limitation on multiple sides

Enough of a whack to the satisfy public anger but not too much so the product
is harmed beyond fixing.

Looking at past tampering cases the ICC have been lenient - more fines than bans
because they know test cricket wont survive if the best talent isnt on the field.

Stuart Broad's comments interesting today, really double edged! Why should the Aussie's change their tactics from the Ashes series when they were getting the ball to reverse when we couldn't! Ouch!

TMS were saying that the "leadership group" comprised 5 players. Smith & Warner, obviously, plus Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon & Josh Hazlewood.

To complicate matters, one of these is currently "furious" about being dragged into this farrago because he wasn't involved in the meeting at all.

Smith needs to reveal who was and who wasn't involved.

Also, it seems that Darren Lehmann and sub Peter Handscomb were at least aware of the plan, because they were coordinating instructions given to Bancroft when it was clear that he'd been rumbled.

Well, despite the best efforts of NZ weather, England lost the first Test.

But it seems that the gung-ho attitude still prevails. 'Rocky' Stokes having been mindful and careful for many balls lost his head just before dinner. Probably a lost cause by then having already lost some wickets before but who knows. The spirit of Matt Prior could have lived on.

T.I.C. comment (no offence meant)

So the head of ethics from Cricket Australia arrives at that plush hotel the cricketers are staying. Overheard to say "Strewth !! If are are gonna do it that don't make it so obvious. Sport !!"

But seriously folks. Expect some major announcement quite soon. Smith could be stripped of the captaincy full-time and Lehman could also be in the firing line.

Public floggings will wait til they get home.
