Strictly speaking it isn't, unless the umpire said "Show me what you had in your hand just now" and he denied having anything.

Presumably they were lifting the seam?

Yeah, stress in sport is massive and in cricket especially due to long periods away from home.

Rumblings that cricket Australia might take the captaincy away from Steve Smith, apparently they will be having a press conference sometime today. It is even possible he might relinquish the post.

I would have demoted Smith in India when he had his brain fade

Signalling for DRS guidance from the dressing room - otherwise known as cheating
or being an idiot

Who ever was involved should be out of any leadership role as clearly their all idiots

30 cameras and your thinking of ball tampering

The lesson is simple

Suck a mint and shine the ball

Thats how everyone else cheats

Australian government calls for Steven Smith to be removed as captain

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Chair John Wylie, the ASC Board, and CEO Kate Palmer - essentially speaking for the Australian government - called for severe action against the team. "The ASC condemns cheating of any form in sport," it said in a statement. "The ASC expects and requires that Australian teams and athletes demonstrate unimpeachable integrity in representing our country.

"Given the admission by Australian captain Steve Smith, the ASC calls for him to be stood down immediately by Cricket Australia, along with any other members of the team leadership group or coaching staff who had prior awareness of, or involvement in, the plan to tamper with the ball. This can occur while Cricket Australia completes a full investigation."

Steven Smith and David Warner have been removed as Australia's captain and vice-captain for the remainder of the Cape Town Test against Australia, as the first fallout of the ball-tampering confession Australia made on the third day of the Test.

Wicketkeeper Tim Paine will lead the side for the last two days of the contest.

Have only read about this but it appears that Joe Root has had a brain fade.

Hurt his finger/hand just before close of play and gets cleaned up a few balls later. The last ball of the day actually. Why did he not simply retire hurt ?. Could, possibly, have come back in on the final day if he was required.

England still trail by a lot and they will have to show a lot more application tomorrow to save this one.

Bancroft cheated with some tape...when confronted by the umpire he pulled out sunglasses case having put the tape down the front of his trousers.

This was not only cheating in the sport, it besmirches the whole of Australia's reputation.

Australia's prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has also spoken about the issue.
"I am shocked and bitterly disappointed by the news from South Africa," said Turnbull.
"It seems beyond belief the Australian cricket team have been involved in cheating. Our cricketers are role models and cricket is synonymous with fair play. How can our team be engaged in cheating like this? It beggars belief."

Well yeah! You can always find an extreme example (We'd 'ave dreamed of living in t'corridor etc.) but I think that my point still holds water for the everyday sportsman. It's combat of sorts but you are trained on green fields with tea breaks - not with live ammunition buzzing past your head.

This is only a big deal because Australia did it.

I think it would always be sensible to remember when playing cricket for England in far away places that many other people, some of them very good players, would be delighted to exchange places with you. It may not be an easy or a comfortable thing to tour so far away from home, but most players will not get this chance twice or even once, so enjoy the moment. Your real life will resume soon enough.
