Paid a little bit extra for a meal onboard. It was OK. The trip was very nice, very quick. We kinda went into the tunnel and came out again not long after; I only realised we were in France because the provider on my phone had changed. Coming back was different. My ex had an Italian passport, so she went straight through the EU queue to board the train. I was stuck in the non-EU queue with a bunch of Americans. The Frenchman working passport control sat in his little booth doing absolutely nothing. Just sat there, staring into space. I quickly realised all those stereotypes about the French being lazy were true. Eventually, another guy came along and took over. I can only assume the lazy sod was waiting out to the end of his shift. Then the line started moving, but by then I had missed the train and had to catch the next one. Filed a complaint with Eurostar, who dragged their feet. Eventually gave me a refund, which was paid into a Paypal account I can't access.

The continuing Saga of The Wisdom of Snapple Tea Leaves....
You breathe in about 13 pints of air every minute. (That doesn't sound very lucky to me.) Plants, like humans, can run a fever if they are sick. Light could travel around the Earth nearly 7.5 times in one second. Our eyes are always the same size from birth, but our nose and ears never stop growing. The biggest pig in recorded history weighed almost one ton. (This one seems especially appropriate for this forum.) If a sheep and a goat mate the offspring is called a geep.

Yes quite right. That was Barry Cossey who became Caroline Cossey or Tula and appeared in 'For Your Eyes Only' as one of the hot bikini girls and also carved out a very good career as a model posing for various magazines. She battled for years to be recognised as a woman -this was before transgender people were finally accepted. I think she got married as well but in the eyes of the law was still classed as a man. She also wrote a book about it. If you look at her pictures both model and naked you'd never know. She has a thread in softcore btw.

Viagra, the Wonder Drug
Viagra (sildenafil) was originally developed as a treatment for pulmonary hypertension (lung related high blood pressure). It still is prescribed to treat that at a lower dosage.
It was during the clinical trial that they received reports that higher dosage produced a certain pleasant side effect. So much so that the test subjects refused to return their unused clinical trial samples.

Girls have won more major Blue Peter competitions than boys, in fact it is usually the youngest of the classes that wins and this goes right back to designing a Christmas stamp in the seventies. Even last year when a major prize was on offer for their 60th anniversary once again a girl won it.

Did you know...
In the 1950s, Hollywood actress Lana Turner was in an abusive relationship with LA gangster Johnny Stompanato. When Stompanato heard a rumour that she was having an affair with her co-star while making a picture in London, he flew over, barged onto the set with a gun and confronted the man. Unfortunately for Stompanato, he turned out to be a 6'2" ex-Royal Navy judo expert named Sean Connery, who disarmed the gangster and sent him packing. Stompanato was murdered by Lana Turner's daughter. His fellow gangsters didn't believe that he could be killed by a girl, and suspected that Connery was somehow involved.

I must come to the defence of the French and provide a bit more info. I have been on Eurostar (French owned) dozens of times and never paid more than 50-odd quid return, except a couple of times I went first class (with meal) and paid £10 extra. Sometimes on arriving in Paris I have gone on to Gare de Lyon and onto Sth of France. However I mostly go to Brussels.
I have never had to wait more than 5 mins at passport control either way. The service is very punctual, can't remember it ever being late. In addition, if you arrive early at the Eurostar station and there is an earlier train other than the one booked you can go on that with no extra charge. |
