Great, great actor. I loved him in that episode of The Twilight Zone were he was advised by Hitler.

Default It was 70 years ago today...

My own little reminiscence of what I remember from the day that Lennon died.

I was 12 years old, and used to take the bus to school. In fact I had to take two buses, as there was a change halfway through the journey. Living in a little village at the time meant that the buses to any major town were few and far between, so a changeover was necessary. In the town where the first bus stopped and the second one picked up, I usually had between 15 and 20 minutes to wait and there was a little newsagents just around the corner from the bus depot.

I often went in there for sweets and bits, also for comics. The shop used to sell DC comics, imports, back before they were widely available in England. They also used to carry Superbike and Custom Car magazine, both of which contained centrefolds of naked ladies. (As a twelve year old I was already fascinated by naked ladies, and the fact that these magazines were in COLOUR was just astonishing to my pubescent mind).

On the day in question, I noticed that one story seemed to dominate every and all newspapers in the shop; a man called simply "Lennon" had been murdered. Every customer who came into the shop seemed to have an opinion to offer and there was a feeling of almost universal sadness that this had occured.

At the time, I had no idea who this man was. I had only the vaguest idea that he was part of a group or band, but again had no idea who THEY were either.

It took me at least another decade before I became aware of the Beatles, and a decade after that before I realised exactly WHAT they were and why so many people were mourning the loss of this one man.

Ironically, now I have a better rememberance of what I was doing when I found out about Lennon's death than just about any other of the so called "milestone" passings of our time.

Happy Birthday John. Peace.

Overshadowed somewhat by John Lennon's birthday celebrations, yesterday would also have been the birthday of the Who's bass player John Entwistle. Another man whose work I sadly came to appreciate after he had passed. Happy belated birthday to you too, Mr Ox.

Rest in peace Ronnie - you will be missed.
I actually met Ronnie about 3 times at my previous job. He was super cool and one of the BEST moments of my life was when I was demo'ing a guitar for a customer. I played this little power metal riff that I made up. Nothing fancy but sounded cool as hell. Well, Ronnie heard it. He walked up to me and said "Play that again!" And I said "Really?" And he said "Yeah, that's pretty cool. I want to hear it again." Man, talk about being flattered! I'm so angry that I had a pic with him on my old cell and of course my cell later that day decided to not send pics via text anymore. Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!
