Who are the best Directors in Porn??
OK, its mostly the actresses who get the attention, but lets be honest, it does not matter how good a girl is if the scene is shot REALLY badly. (And I have seen plenty of films like this.)
So I thought I would start a list of directors, people who's work is worth seeking out for the simple reason that they make good porn. This should help those seeking quality stuff. I'll get the ball rolling with a few. Alex De Renzy - A really obvious choice, but the porn he made in his career was always outstanding. Well shot, and good performances coaxed out of the actors. (Not just the usual "Are you going to fuck me now??) Classic Example - Wild Things 2 http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfi...ex-DeRenzy.htm Kirdy Stevens - Another obvious choice. A very limited filmography, and nearly half of his thirteen films are from the Taboo series (an outstanding set). Once again, he knew how to capture great sex. Classic Example - Playing With Fire (Not as famous as the Taboo films, but just as hot) http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfi...dy-Stevens.htm Troy Benny - A good solid director. Most of the films of his that I have seen have been solid porno's. He didn't make films with epic stories, but he did focus on the hot sex. Classic Example - Boiling Desires or Three Ripening Cherries http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfi...Troy-Benny.htm John Leslie - A true craftsman, a lot of the stuff he has directed tends to look like mainstream hollywood efforts with explicit sex in them. Check out his stuff. Classic Example - Chameleon http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfi...ohn-Leslie.htm So there you go, there's the start of a list. Feel free to add other directors to the thread. |

I think you have to separate features and gonzo. That said, the director who excels at both is John Leslie. IMO at least one of his features - Anything that Moves - was actually better than the source Hollywood movie. For my tastes, "Chameleons - Not the Sequel" equals "Misty Beethoven" as the best feature ever.
Another terrific feature director was the late Anthony Spinelli. Like Kirdy Stevens, Spinelli seemed to shorten the sex scenes in favor of moving the plot along. A lot of people hate him (especially raincoaters), but in terms of pure success you have to give Paul Thomas his due. He took a label that was already successful and made it a powerhouse. |

Mario Saleri is the best. Others just pale in comparison. What he understands is that porn appeals to men and men want to see women. When I say women I mean a shot that captures the whole body. Nearly every other director and pretty much all American directors cram their movies with extreme close ups and overly long male reaction shots. The latter was the mainstay of 80's porn killed many a scene. Men don't buy or rent porn to see the look of pleasure on a mans face. Hard to understand why most directors just don't get that. Salieris movies make every American porn film seem like a total waste of time.

Agreed
I agreed with that.
I also hate movies where they cut between different sex positions. It's the best bit watching the woman rearrange herself.

Yes, absolutely correct. It always looks better when they move around rather than going magically from missionary to doggy, etc.....
