When and where, or what director and performers started making more extreme or raunchy porn films? I assume it was some time in the 1980s, probably in the US.

I started noticing flashes of gonzo style porn in the eary 90s but I'm sure it's always been around in some form, probably underground as a inexpensive alternative, before it became popular. Seymour Butts, Buttman and max harcore are the directors that comes to mind first. Ashley Blue is a notable performer.

Nah, the US 80's porn industry was very tame. Check out the content from the European countries. By the 70's they were already doing the nasty stuff.

I would say the guy who really started the extreme stuff in the US was Rob Black. Then came Max Hardcore and things quickly went downhill from there.

I think it was the original "The gangbang girl" with Trixie Tyler. There had been gangbangs before, but they were short affairs with a handful of guys. In Gangbang Girl, I seem to recall a couple of scenes where she does several guys, then one big scene where she does either 14 or 16, and all have sex with her.
