Well my experience was quite shaky to begin with, usually enjoyed Escort, Club, Naughty Neighbours, 40+ and Big Ones...and would travel to selected newsagents usually with a very hard dick as I chose my selected titles.

And then came US mag packs of maybe 3 or 4 out of date titles for £7 all bubdled together and I found Velvet, Swank, Cheri, Gallery, US Hustler, High Society etc etc

I dont think I ever bought from a woman and I would have bailed out, I had a way of walking purposefully up to the counter to get a bar of chocolate whilst quickly scanning the entire top shelf....I looked like a cross between Marti Feldman and a Chameleon and then do a loop back to pick up porno in a flash of an eye.

I always paid, never stole and at most I maybe bought 3 mags as singles or a multi pack and a single.

I never go a thrill, I was just gald to get out without being recognised.

It was more the anticipation that did it for me. Looking at the beautiful girls on the covers from afar before choosing which one I would take home. Although rather embarrassed myself, the girls who served me seemed more nervous.

I didn't start buying magazines until I was over 18. I typically bought Playboy and only if I knew there was something special about the issue - such as a celebrity I thought was hot who was posing nude, a theme I liked, etc.

I don't remember any buying experiences that were particularly memorable save one. I had just left a job interview and went to the bookstore dressed to the nines. It was a few days before Christmas and I wore a funny Christmas themed tie. When I walked up to the counter with my selections, there was this hot older MILF working the register. She really liked my tie and asked me a bunch of questions about it. I told her I had just come from an interview, she asked how it went, etc. She was very friendly. Kinda wish I had been more forward in the situation. Oh well.

I started buying mags as soon as I was old enough, had my regular newsagents in Nottingham that I commuted to for college, that sold the harder Whitehouse / Playbirds Continental type publications. Didn't have the nerve to go into the sex shop that was apparently selling hardcore (and got raided by the police for it).

Eventually plucked up the courage to go into a Private shop in Sheffield and got ripped off with censored crap. Bloke tried to sell me a video from "under the counter" as he put it - when he showed it to me it had a hot cover, but he kept it in his hand in order to cover up the red "18" rating in the bottom of the sleeve!! Luckily I rumbled that one and didn't buy.

This thread has brought back some vivid memories. I'm surprised so many UK schoolboys found it relatively easy to buy porn mags back in the eighties as I remember several failed missions, including being physically manhandled once by an irate shopkeeper. His intolerance was confusing because the magazines were placed conspicuously in a rotating rack close to the counter. The raunchy front covers were very much "in your face" for a short-arsed mid-teen but as soon as I showed an interest by slowly rotating the rack the man shouted: "Oh, no, no, no !", ran from behind the counter and pushed me out of the door. It was very traumatic and deterred me from trying for a while.

My next attempt, almost a year after the "assault" detailed above, didn't start promisingly either. I'd foolishly made eye contact with the friendly middle-aged shop assistant on my way in and felt that she was watching my every move as I stood nervously facing the wall of magazines with my back to the counter. After taking a deep breath I tried to scan the top row without moving my head and the brief glimpse of a few juicy front covers was enough to give me the rush of adrenalin needed to carry on with my mission. I steeled myself and went to work quickly, picking up three sports magazines from the lower shelves and a music paper before reaching up to grab a porn title randomly in one swift move. With a racing heartbeat I turned, hurriedly stumbled to the till and plonked my load in front of the surprised woman. There was a tense silence before she said something like:
"Gosh, that was quick. You like your reading then love ?".
I managed an unconvincing "Oh yeah" in reply but, as nice as the lady was, I found myself wishing she would shut up.
"What have we got then ?", she asked rhetorically and began working through the pile, ringing up the prices on the till steadily. My fear/excitement had reached boiling point by the time she finally locked her eyes and hand on my prize and paused. I felt her looking at me but resisted making eye contact this time and then, after an agonizingly long few seconds, she said something simply wonderful:
"I'll get you a bag for these love".
The transaction was completed without any more fuss or words, apart from a mumbled but heartfelt thankyou on my part.
Unsurprisingly, although the shop was several miles from my home, I went back there often (until it closed and became a bookmakers) and it was always a pleasure to be served by that same lady.

I always hated buying. Felt really uncomfortable, even with a man serving me. I just wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible. Sometimes I would go in to the shop and if it was too crowded for my liking, I would pretend to look at a computer magazine, and then just leave. This then posed a problem - do I walk round the block and then go back in the same shop? Or do I just continue down the road to the next shop? Some nights I was out for hours. It was rare that I would get my fix from the first shop I entered.

I used to go on massive walks looking for the hot off the press mag. At the back of Men Only etc, they would always tell you the date of the next issue. Over time, I came to realise that some newsagents would get their copy up to two days early, but there was no way of knowing which shop would get it early. So I used to leave the house, and go on huge, calorie-burning walks, even though there was no guarantee that I would get the issue I wanted, and may have had to wait a bit longer for it. Some night I arrived home empty handed.

One night I missed most of the 1993 FA Cup final replay between Arsenal and Sheff Wed because I was out hunting down wank mags.
