I used to be a very keen cyclist. At one point I was doing 25 miles a day I loved it, until I was knocked down by 4WD broken leg. But i'm going to get back on the saddle again. It's good fun and great exercise.

Has every cyclist had his moment(s) when he bit the dust ? Had a lovely crash of my own last Summer....... legs gashed and cut up, a cut over the bridge of my nose, a nice hematoma under the right eye. Enough blood to make Bela Lugosi cringe. Rode home blind in one eye, showered off, called the wife up so she wouldn't freak out when she came home, and went to bed.

My biggest mistake was a kind young woman stopped her car to ask if I was alright. I said I was OK and she drove off. Guess I've been married too long....

Welcome back to the saddle. May the road rise up to greet you............

The man is busy holding down his excellent "NFL and NBA thread". Probably wasn't fair to expect him to start up a cycling thread as well.

Even if you're not a fan of American football, stop by. It's a pretty loose crew, and the topics do wander a bit. Besides, you can't beat the cheerleader pictures !

Cyclocross: Training and Technique, 3rd Ed. by Simon Burney ($18.99 US)

Cyclocross is a fun and challenging mix of road and off-road racing on a closed circuit with obstacles such as sandtraps, berms, and barriers. Countless cyclists are discovering one of Europe's favorite autumn pastimes to be much more than off-season training. From Simon Burney, the expert on cyclocross racing and training, comes a fully updated and expanded edition, exploring every aspect of this increasingly popular sport.

Beginners and veterans alike will benefit from comprehensive explanations of cyclocross racing techniques and tactics. Riders will improve basic skills of climbing, descending, and bunny-hopping over obstacles with step-by-step descriptions and photographs of the pro riders at work. Burney covers how and when to dismount and remount a bike, as well as how to tackle tough course conditions from snow to sand to mud. With the latest on equipment and bike fit, newcomers will be off to a good start with the proper gear. A newly expanded training section describes how to train on a monthly, weekly, and daily basis, with hints for on- and off-road training as well as run training and training indoors. Burney's expertise is complemented with tips from some of the best riders in contemporary cyclocross.

Black-and-white photos throughout.

"It's hard to imagine any cyclocross racer or potential racer who wouldn't find a way to get faster by reading Burney's new edition. Burney gave the classic cyclocross book a thorough make-over. Equipment, training and technique sections were all brought up-to-date by a writer who is involved in the sport at its highest levels." - cyclocrossworld.com

Well...it may be my idea, but like the Japanese - you have taken the idea and in this short time, done more with it than I ever could. I'm glad we have someone as well versed as yourself to run this.

I am grateful for the day the wife left you alone on Sunday, allowed you to watch some football and you walked into our thread!

If we could only find a way to NEVER let the Cowboys fans win...

Cyclocross looks interesting Rick, but I don't think BB is fit enough for it yet. Will check out the book though!

Jeez, stop. You're making me blush !

FYI, I'm watching the Lions-Jets game and the wife just texted me. Which is strange since she's just upstairs !

Thanks for the idea for this thread, and the kind words..............

WHATEVER it takes...it took me years to find one that was a Steelers fan, so mine is on the couch next to me - as we flip between Minn/Zona, Bills/Chi and your Lions game.

But she does not get to control the remote!!!
