Joan Crawford and Clark Gable in 1940 film "Strange Cargo" --- Wikipedia

Classic film ran into censorship and distribution trouble and was condemned by
the Legion of Decency due to its take on religion and the lustful relationship.
That relationship of the 2 main characters is depicted in these three publicity
portraits. Crawford and Gable had made 8 films together over the past 9 years
and had conducted an off-screen romance. Reportedly Crawford’s wardrobe
consisted of three off the rack dresses costing $40 each , though Adrian was
credited with costume design . Surely the famous Crawford's shoes she wears
for these publicity stills were not part of that budget ...
