I entered stage Fx43 today. Allthough I was able to get my grabber running again by fiddling the preferences, I'm considering this solution from the IHG site

http://imagehost-grabber.org/index.php?topic=3479.0

I installed the Palemoon browser from there, so as not to get completely 'stuffed' when Fx44 hits me. I would be afraid of running an outdated FF version just to keep my grabber working for security reasons.

Any thoughts?

I don't want to move to Pale Moon because although it supports Imagehost Grabber, it doesn't support a load of other extensions I deem essential. I'm a bit more relaxed about using outdated Fx versions it seems. In the (slightly) longer term, there's this suggestion, from Mozilla itself:
Quote:
What are my options if I want to install unsigned extensions in Firefox?
  • The Developer Edition and Nightly versions of Firefox will have a setting to disable signature enforcement. There will also be special unbranded versions of Release and Beta that will have this setting, so that add-on developers can work on their add-ons without having to sign every build. To disable signature checks, you will need to set the xpinstall.signatures.required preference to "false".
    • type about:config into the URL bar in Firefox
    • in the Search box type xpinstall.signatures.required
    • double-click the preference, or right-click and selected "Toggle", to set it to false.
How will the unbranded versions of Firefox work?
  • They will work just like Firefox, with two differences: they will have a setting to disable mandatory signature checks, and they will not have the Firefox name and logo (instead using a generic name and logo). They will be available in the en-US locale only.

For the very moment, I will not update from actual FF-version 42 towards43/44 - hence I disabled automatic upgrading.

As an alternative and due to eventual security issues due to non-upgrading, I have made a switch towards Opera-Browser (= ~Google Chrome) for the regular daily browsing.

Should I come across picture-sets here at VEF that need bulk-downloads, I copy the Post-URL, paste it then in my "old" FF v42 and go for the grabbing via ImageHostGrabber...hoping that security-issues deriving from the VEF-site are (hopefully) neglectable in that particular case.

I will do so for the next time and look how things/developments/circumventions are going to evolve in FF v44up.

In case you follow the regular FF-upgrades, you may find (signed) grabbing-tools that should work with it:

DownThemAll is a FF-AddOn that can be configured in order to grab jpg-files from Imagehosters.

Another one is Bulk Image Downloader (BID). This works in FF and Chrome/Opera, however the free version only does grab 100 pics per post. Posts exceeding these number needs a very annoying fiddling, hence I wouldn´t recommend this for multi-pic posts. Besides the browser-addOn you do have to install the BID-application priorly before getting the specific add-on afterwards.

Speaking for myself as a collector of full-sets, the grabbing via tools like ImageHostGrabber and others has never been of my personal preferences as very often pics are missing and sets stay incomplete by result - and therefore worthless.

Perhaps the above described tools may help to satisfy your needs.

@MrInBetween
Thanks for the interesting description on how to change configuration-settings in new FF-versions.

One additional 'aw shucks' about Palemoon is that it's Windows and Linux only.

I was actually hoping that this thread would ferret out some code warriors that could help the folks at imagehost grabber re-write their program so it would be compliant with extension signing.

How do you configure DTA to work like IHG?

I upgraded to 43.1 Mac today.
Imagehost Grabber was disabled after the upgrade
I followed these directions:

To disable signature checks, you will need to set the xpinstall.signatures.required preference to "false".

type about:config into the URL bar in Firefox
in the Search box type xpinstall.signatures.required
double-click the preference, or right-click and selected "Toggle", to set it to false.

Restart Firefox
And Imagehost Grabber is enabled

the actual problem is that IHG doesn't work with some host files like imgbox or somefiles as it did in the past. That's why FF is about to lose some heavy users like me

I can use IHG with both those hosts - are you using the most up to date version? The link was given in velocity's post on the first page of this thread.

If you mean someimage, I'm using IHG with FF 43, and it works perfectly on both image hosts.

Default This Worked For Me

Just tried this and so far it's working for me. I'm running FF 43.0.2 and IHG 1.6.5.5.1

May experiment with IHG 1.7.0.3. I had it working a day or two a couple weeks ago, had some new features but, then the whole thing was disabled. Couldn't get it back.
