I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada; the heart of Canada's oil & gas industry.

Since 2014, when oil prices crashed, our City has been in recession; with over 25% of the floor-space in our downtown office towers now vacant. Over 100,000 people have been put out of work, and it doesn't look like there will be much of an improvement any-time soon. The drilling and services industry has completely collapsed with fewer than 4,000 new wells being drilled this year in all of Western Canada. In a normal year we used to see 10,000 new wells, and in a "Boom" year the number could be over 20,000.

Foreign based anti-fossil fuel activists have waged a 20 year lobbying campaign that has finally resulted in our democratically elected Federal Government imposing environmental policy and red-tape that completely hamstrings any attempt to build pipelines, or maintain current levels of fossil-fuel production. Even Canadian owned and operated energy companies are now directing their capital spending to the USA, the Middle-East, and sub-Saharan Africa (where they can get things done without having to comply with the insanely high bar our federal Government has set). It is economically more feasible to employ a small private army to secure well-sites in Nigeria, than it is to spend those millions in Canada on legal fees, environmental studies, gender impact studies, etc. with no assurance of ever getting a project off the ground.

The Feds have effectively killed the golden goose . . . . fxck them and the horse they rode in on!

Here is a screen-cap from today's edition of our local newspaper. We have a US based oilfield trucking company looking for experienced Canadian operators to help them move drilling rigs. This is expensive stuff . . . they will need to obtain Green Cards for any Canadians they hire (to ensure that Canadians do not scoop up any high-paying jobs that could be filled by US citizens and "illegals"). Their oil & gas industry is "booming".

Right next to that ad is one promoting an LBGTQ event. What a contrast!

You can bet that the target audiences for these two ads will never meet.

Reading the article by the Judge who reviewed the investigation, the Senior Officers involved in the witchhunt have a lot of questions to answer. He is accusing them of lying to a District Judge in order to gain search warrants.

If proven then a jail sentence would not be inappropriate for some very senior officers and the IOPC management would have to be overhauled.
