the "British" Empire
but several now

not welcome such
associations. That's not
because they deny
their past but
simply that national
identities have changed.
"Britishness" has changed,
as well as
other national identities.

welcome an outsider
instead terming it

When I or
some other American
refer to our

language we call
it English not
American. There is
no such thing
as the American
language. It is
the English language

As to your
query. I personally
would not be
offended if someone
called my "accent"
former English.

American is rather
a loose term
People who live
in the state
of Texas refer
to themselves as
Texans, not Americans

Since there are
so many mixtures
of nationalities in
the USA, People
often refer to
themselves related to
the country of
origin of their
parents. Examples: German
American, Italian American
Irish American, and
for myself Jewish
American. It can
sometimes get confusing!
