And...we're back! (but for how long??)
Anyway as you will recall if you saw my last post last night I went late-night Christmas shopping with my friend. Before I'd have said what a mad idea but in some cases it does make sense. There are less people about, although I did notice a lot of kids about, some school ones, and families, so if you are a working person it makes sense to do this especially at Christmas. One major thing I noticed was a big Arsenal shop had gone and replaced by a big shirt shop Charles Twywht(or however you spell it) which aren't cheap by any stretch. This late shopping idea just might catch on with me for future Christmases. Just spent 45mins setting up a new printer/scanner/copier for my Dad. It unbelievable that you cannot just buy an ordinary printer anymore. My old HP Deskjet still has cartridges for it and must be at least 10-12 years old, yet my Dad was forced to get an all-in-one. Bearing in mind he is 83, he would struggle were it not for me to help. I sometimes think the manufacturers should remember that people of a certain age do need to replace their machines from time to time and should make it easier. I should add that when I took out the USB lead, restarted the laptop and then reinstalled the software it only took 5 mins-doh!!! Nine days on and still nothing from Amazon and that includes the tracking of the parcels I am waiting for. It is worrying to say the least and annoying to say the most, but for now all I can is wait for some kind of confirmation. Had it said "delivery date between 8-10th Dec, I could claim a breach of contract, but it said "delivery date estimated 31stDec-Jan 7th 2015" so I can't do that. I will keep you informed.

the relaxing of trade sanctions with cuba by the USandA will spell the end of all those 50s classics kept running with improvised repairs and home made parts .
folk will just go out and buy new or nearly new a shame people dont think of the knock on effects do they ? when everybody was cheering the dismantling of the berlin wall back in 89 i couldnt help but think theres probably a group of builders who had originally erected the thing and worked really hard on it looking on aghast . but nobody thinks of them do they ? |

Well that particular erection was made with soldiers pointing guns at the builders, which would have somewhat undermined the builders' sense of professional accomplishment upon completion...

Interesting to note that last night in Aldershot the famous football match between British and German soldiers was recreated with a football match-what else! And I can report that the British beat the Germans 1-0. There are conflicting reports as to what actually happened but a letter, that recently turned up, had an account from a soldier that said a game of football occured as well as exchange of photos and sharing of food/drink as well as a sing-song of Christmas carols. So it would appear that Paul McCartney's song depicting this(Pipes of Peace) wasn't so far-fetched.

Just got on quickly to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and however you celebrate it and whoever you're with, I hope it's a good one for you. See you next week, as long as the forum hasn't disappeared.

This site is really sucking lately. Can't get in for days at a time. Then get kicked out after a couple of pages. It is VERY irritating. I know they are working on it but man does it suck.
