Regarding the Candy Barr sex scenes:
I’m hoping that someone knowledgeable about Candy Barr can settle a couple of things for me. After looking at the photos of Candy having sex, I’ve made a few observations: First, I can see two men. One is fair with thinning hair. He’s the man from Smart Aleck. They seem to be in the same room as the movie. It has two beds; one has a chenille spread on it and the other does not. The night table is cluttered with bottles and glasses. The second man has dark hair. A few of the photos are taken in the room with two beds. The majority of photos with the dark haired man seem to be from a room with one bed. It has a chenille spread on it. There are at least two different photo shoots in that room. In one shoot, the man is not wearing a watch but he does have a wedding band. In the other, bigger group, he’s wearing a watch but no wedding band. Here’s where the Candy Barr experts come in. Are my observations correct? If not, where have I erred? Does another film with the dark haired man exist, or was that just a still photo shoot? Do any more, or better scans of the sex scenes exist? If so, could someone post them? |

Good observation on your part, never noticed that before. Only wish the screen caps were larger when they are blown up. Hard to believe that Smart Alec was the icon of porno movies. That woman also had talent as a dancer/stripper hope someone can find more photos to post of her.

Thanks for the posts. She came from humble beginnings and apparently had a hard life, at least at first. Reading a biography about her it seems that she was actually 16 when she made Smart Alec (Not 18 as Playboy said in an article she was mentioned in.) but I don't know where those stills with the other guy came from. Later, without any formal training Barr rose to fame as a stripper, even showed a Hollywood star dancing moves and received credit in that movie. (Sorry right now I forget the actress name and movie.) I know she had a daughter and was saddened to hear of her demise. Barr lived in a very different time and place than today is but she made the most of what she was given. And thanks again for all the posts in this thread. Those photos have made her come alive again.

Been doing a bit more research on Candy. Seems at one time the magazine "Texas Monthly," named her one of history's perfect Texans. Don't know when that issue came out however but think it was in the late 1960's or early '70's. And she's named with Lady Bird Johnson!!!
She also did photo spreads in both Oui and Playboy magazines in 1976. Don't have access to those so maybe one of you out there might have those scans to post. In 1959 Barr, who apparently learned dancing without any formal training, was hired as a choreographer for the movie, "Seven Thieves," and taught Joan Collins how to dance. Barr later said Collins would have a career in her line of work if she ever left the movies. Collins also credited Barr for her efforts. Barr also has a four-minute clip of her stripping in the 1969 film, "My Tale is Hot." Don't where I'd go to find that one however but one of you out there might. And after seeing this thread I wonder if she also did a second HC film. I've seen Smart Alec and as I recall one one guy is in that one having sex with her. Some of these posts indicate there is also a scene with another guy, who was lucky enough to have sex with her. Back then it was a very underground activity and one can only wonder how great she would be in HC in these modern times. And how loud the screaming would be if it got out that she was actually 16 when she was in Smart Alec. Barr later claimed she was forced to do that movie and drugged. Just hope someone can find those magazines and post scans from them. She was an amazing woman and left a legacy in two different forms of entertainment. She's also in a hall of fame for burlesque dancers located somewhere between L.A. and Las Vegas. Her lip prints are past of Barr's display. |

Those b&w sex photos were shot at the Starway Motel just outside of Fort Worth, Texas in 1951. The guy with the dark hair is Lonnie Eppwright. He was a Dallas pimp and pornographer. His brother owned the motel which was considered a "safe" place to shoot stag films and photos because it was outside city limits. Several of Eppwright's known films looked to be shot there. I need to check my sources for the ID of the man with the thinning hair, but I seem to recall he's Lloyd "Birdy" Tibbitts or Tibitts. They took turns fucking Barr and snapping pics of it.
Eppwright was killed in Houston in 1957 by a man identified as Lee Stodders while awaiting trial for a marijuana possession rap. Stodders knifed him behind the Colonnade Club. Eppwright was pretty well known to the cops in Dallas and Fort Worth at the time, there are mug shots of him going back to 1938. The Texas Monthly cover story on Candy was December 1976. After checking, I can confirm the guy with the thinning hair was, indeed, Birdy Tibbitts. Tibbitts was a gambler and a small time hood featured in several of Eppwright's stag reels. He was Candy's off-and-on boy friend until about 1954. In 1971 Insomniac magazine did a series on porn and tracked down the details behind Smart Aleck. An ex-Dallas cop who knew Lonnie and Birdy gave them much of the information. They tracked Tibbitts to Las Vegas where he was living and working for Benny Binion. Birdy told them that the three of them spent the weekend at the Starway and shot three films.
Birdy didn't know what happened to the other two films but he did say that Eppwright often sold his stag movies through Frank Ries who apparently was a big name in the shadowy porn biz of the day. Tibbitts reportedly committed suicide in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1977. If I can find the Insomniac magazine article I'll scan it and post it. |
