Animation is an art form. The artists and animators are masters of their craft. Look at the backgrounds in many of their classic films, they're gorgeous. They belong in an art gallery. Whats been dubbed as "Classical Animation" takes tremendous skill and education. It can take up to 5 years before graduating to animator in some cases. These films have fully orchestrated soundtracks that rival any live action film or concert. Color is often used to express an emotion or create an atmosphere, which subconsciously connections with the viewer. It's a highly technical craft. The best animated films appeal to both youngsters and adults. Now whether or not you like a particular film is up to personal taste of course.

What Sirch said.
I enjoy animation for its own sake and like to find obscure examples. The Disney stuff is a bit twee and mawkish on the whole so not a huge fan of it - but I love the Warner Bros. in their heyday. Some genuine belly laughs to be had. I still await the restoration of the very few Gaumont British animations that were made by Disney exile David Hand in England. The attempt to set up a British rival didn't work out, but about 20 shorts were made here. As for childish, well maybe. But sometimes it's good for the soul to be childlike! |

I like to watch the old WB Loony Tunes because they are chocked with double entendre. You laughed at the slapstick comedy as a kid and if you are open enough to watch them as an adult they take on a whole new meaning.
