Unhappy

The BBC are reporting (for the second time) that the Radio 2 DJ, Brian Matthew has died, at the age of 88.

Brian presented a 2 hour show on Saturday mornings called "Sounds of the 60's", which I always woke up to, and listened to as I got ready and drove to the super market, his style was to give a little information about each song, then play it in full, he never talked over a song, nor cut it short, he acknowledged that the music, not the presenter was the star of the show.

The BBC sacked him earlier this year, even though they said it was a mutual decision. (Brian rejected their statement)

In my opinion he was by far the best DJ the BBC ever had, and a lot of radio presenters could learn valuable lessons from him (yes Steve Wright, I'm looking at you)

R.I.P, Brian.

He was also the bastard who killed Lady Sybil in Downton Abbey. BOO! HISS!

Probably the most recognisable BBC voice worldwide owing to his announcing duties on umpteen "Live At The Beeb" releases including The Beatles, Zeppelin, Hendrix and almost everybody else who ever mattered.

Another bit of my childhood gone. Long before "Sounds of the 60s" he presented "Saturday Club" which is where you first got to hear that new record by the Beatles, Kinks, Stones etc. On TV, he presented "Thank Your Lucky Stars" - another ground-breaking show that featured audience member Janice who often uttered the much copied phrase "Oi'll give it foive", spoken in her strong midlands accent.

RIP that gentleman.

Terrible news about John.

I will have to watch the whole series of The Games again in his memory.

Along with a truckload of other stuff.

Default Scottish billionaire car dealer Sir Arnold Clark dies

Sir Arnold Clark, the founder of Britain's biggest independent group of car dealerships, has died at the age of 89.
The billionaire was born in Glasgow, where he set up his first showroom in 1954.
A statement said he had passed away peacefully, "surrounded by his family".
It added that Sir Arnold, who was knighted in 2004, was "an inspiration" and said "the family will continue to carry on his vision".
He was confirmed as Britain's first billionaire car dealer in the Sunday Times Rich List in 2016.
The company which bears Sir Arnold's name has 200 dealerships across the UK, with more than 18,000 new and used cars in stock. It posted profits of £107.2m in 2014 on sales of £3.2bn.
Sir Arnold founded the business after leaving the Royal Air Force in the early 1950s.
He used his demob money to buy a Morris Ten-Four for just £70. Having restored the car to its former glory and sold it on for a profit, he began to buy and sell cars.
His first showroom was in Glasgow's Park Road.
