Be careful with some DVD, for instance some in Caballero releases the film is set in 2 different VOB files so you only have half the film. For instance.
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_02_2.VOB

On other releases the the Title set of the film also contains unwanted material, as menus and stuff that you don't want in your rip

In such cases what I do is load the files in avidemux (VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_02_1.VOB, VTS_02_2.VOB) remove the unwanted content and save it as mpg file to rip the film with your preferred method (although you can rip it directly with avidemux itself).

I use Imgburn to convert "VIDEO_TS" folders to .ISO files for mounting.

Then I use good old "DVD Decrypter" to rip the correct PGCs and to avoid exactly those issues Paraque123 is talking about...
You'll get one .IFO + one .VOB file containing the movie (if you disable file splitting in the settings) so no merging of vobs is needed.

For a simple drag and drop encode I recommend Vidcoder (I like it more than Handbrake)
or for a more advanced workflow I prefer MeGUI

J4ZZ, I've seen that for straight DVDs we use the same programs but for VIDEO_TS folders ripped on your hard drive with a right structure you can use PgcDemux, so you can skip several the creation of the DVD (you can select IFO file corresponding to the VTS film(.

My approach with avidemux is when the main film is splitted in 2 different VTS VOBS. For instance in Summer of 72 the DVD contains 8 Video Title Sets, each one with its own IFO and VOBs files. The main film is splitted in two parts, the first one in VTS_02_1.VOB + VTS_02_2.VOB, which only has one PGC of 40:19, and the second one in VTS_03_1.VOB + VTS_03_2.VOB, which only has one PGC of 35:32. If you use the conventional programs (either VidCoder or MEGUI) you must rip separately each part (File indexer of MEGUI only allows one IFO file), so if you crop the vid you must check both parts have the same settings and resolution in order to do it without problems.
With avidemux (or VOB Merger) I can joint all the VOBs in one mpg file of around 76 ming, so I'm sure that all the coding settings are the same for the whole vid.

On the other side, if the structure of the vid isn't appropriate, the menus, warnings and extras may be in the same PGC, although you can deal it with avs cutter in MEGUI and editing the cut poins in vidcoder. For instance the DVD of the Le fatiche erotiche di Ercole has one PGC of 113 min with a warning, the main film (84 min) and 2 extra scenes. The usual programs rip the all the stuff as the main film, including warnings and extras,

You are right PGCDemux or Smartripper can extract directly from VIDEO_TS folders.
But I basically do the conversion for keeping the DVDs and when I want to play them over my STB, TV or mobile devices (DLNA, Kodi, EMC on Enigma2 etc.). Further one big .ISO file uses less space (sectors, blocks) on my drive then multiple small .bup and .ifo files.

Regarding the split movies I use DGIndex directly by simply adding all required .vobs to the "file list", let it analyse and create a .d2v file which then can be used as input file in "AVS Script Creator" in MeGUI (resulting in one single encoding)

Works flawless...

Thanks, I always use File Indexed with MEGUI and I didn't know that trick to have one single d2v file :thumbsup. BTW I've took a look to the documentation and I haven't seen anything to cut the parts I'm interested in (or remove the stuff I'm not). I guess isn't possible.

For cutting there is "AVS Cutter" in MeGUI and "Audio Cutter" does the same for audio using the created cutfile from avs cutter. (.clt) I call it clit

Hi guys. I'm somewhat new to this forum - loving it so far :-)

I found this thread since I'm having trouble merging VOB files. The software recommended in this thread are a bit old, so I'm bumping this thread.

Any new tools for merging VOB's?

Thanks in advance, guys :-)

I can recommend "Aiseesoft video converter", it is doing a great job for almost all video formats

you can also try LosslessCut.
Available for Windows , Linux or Mac.
Free for Linux , paid for windows from the microsoft store, or if you download from github direct then its free for windows too.
it does a lossless edit, no re-encoding so its instant

You can also try AviDemux, open source cross platfrom

Also MakeMKV; and GopChop

I use the rather simplistically named Video to Video, which is functional.
