Did you know that Sir Walter Raleigh's second name wasn't 'Raleigh' it was 'Despenser'.

'Raleigh' was his nickname.

He got it on account of his mother being the village bike.

There was also a rumour at the time that he had a really big willy.

Which is where Raleigh got the inspiration for the name for their famous 1970's bike.

The Raleigh Chopper.

There are 400 recognized species of dog, more then any other species of mammal in the world.

Yeah! And he had a brother called Pez. Both were good at yanking others' bicycle chains. Nice try

Unless you consider selective breeding engineering then that is not true. The so called pure breeds all came from wild cousins. As dogs became domesticated man started noticing certain characteristics they wanted and others they did not. So they picked the ones that had the most desired ones and bred them until they got what they wanted in that breed. This took centuries in most cases and people keep trying for new breeds even now. I do think there are plenty though.

Did you know that the word 'BIRD' features in three different types of craft:

1) SpeedBIRD-the call sign of British Airways aeroplanes, but originally assigned to the British Airways Concorde which was known as Speedbird1
2) BlueBIRD was the name of Donald Campbell's record breaking car for the world land & sea speed records
3) The US fighter plane/bomber the SR71 which was also known as the BlackBIRD
Can you think of any others?

I've often wondered what this word meant and now I know thanks oddly enough to today's episode of 'Eastenders'(British long-running soap opera for those who don't know it) When a deviant is called a nonce it actually stands for 'not of normal criminal element' which basically means that someone has different sexual tendencies frowned upon by the law, such as a child molestor or other such person.
