They want their freaking telemetry
Although this happened on a Windows 7 machine I suspect it's probably there for Windows 10 as well. I'm sitting in front of my computer when suddenly it starts accessing the hard drive a massive amount. I check Task Manager and yup, its MS doing its telemetry so I can be upgraded to Win10. I use Task Manager to shut down that process and it doesn't work. 5 times! I put the computer to sleep, and even though the monitor goes dark, it is still accessing the hard drive. I try to power up. Nope. The telemetry is more important. Finally I turn off my router and this garbage stops.
These weasels at will suck every bit of information out of your computer that they want. Don't think you will stop them unless you have some program to do it. I feel like throwing up. |

Microsoft showing ads via Windows 10 lock screen
May have already been covered but first I've heard of it.
http://appleinsider.com/articles/16/...on-lock-screen To me the lock screen seems a pretty weird choice for advertising. That's something you usually only use at work not at home. Or maybe it does make sense as that means people with jobs will be seeing them

I'm not really paying attention to the W10 nagware but this guy hates windows updates with a passion and has been warning all and sundry to TURN off AUTOMATIC WINDOWS UPDATES for years
and download manually when an update is known to be safe Woody Leonhard He's usually up with what every update is having an adverse effect on software wise http://www.askwoody.com/category/mic...ches-security/ Having read a few reviews about W10 I cant fathom why many would move from W7/7.1 or 8.1 if using a desk top The XP to W7 upgrade made sense and was transparent with obvious benefits spelt out Most downsides were catered for with XP mode in W7 Last edited by buttsie; February 26th, 2016 at 10:21 PM.. To be rid of the nagware problem I made a clean reinstall of Windows 7 on my machine. After that I setup my anti-virus to maximum vigilence (BitDefender Internet Security 2016) and made no upgrades at all for the system. I allowed all other upgrades. Since then my machine works like a dream. No problem at all. I think the recent upgrades (since 2015) are more problems than solutions. Microsoft teams must be in a turmoil; they cant differentiate between useful for the users and useful for Microsoft any more. And I have no intention of helping them. I intend to upgrade to Windows 10 in June. That leaves time for the idiots at Microsoft to find their bugs or at least most of them. |

No to AUTOMATIC windows updates
OOPS!!!! - Think i erred slightly with that former comment
Hes been against automatic windows updates because all too often MS manage to upset 3rd party pieces of software. Not hard to do when you consider they have to accomodate for some 15,000+ (figures taken during the windows 7 upgrade) Manually updating is what he says is worthwhile but only after problems have been ironed out If you dont update then you run the risk of zero day threat Interesting to know that the average time it takes MS to fix critical security issues is 10 days Linux by comparison is same day Not hard to see why MS is considered the least secure |
