There is also the small matter of Microsoft's logging and spyware built into W10. Not really a good idea to let some corporation know everything that your law enforcement does.

Last tuesday Microsoft confirmed the suppress of beetween 3 000 and 5 000 posts all around the world.
Actually there are about 121 000 Microsoft employees all around the world.

Those about to be terminated are essentially commercials (perhaps they did not sell enough W10 ?).

Alas Satya Nadella remains in place.

In a sane world, that would, of course, be the logical solution. Alas, the U.K. government is still enamoured by the concept of "austerity", which basically means the police, health service, defence systems etc. will have to whistle if they think they'll get up to date hardware, let alone software.
If that continues to be the case, I still cannot see why no-one has suggested installing Linux on the existing hardware.

The U.K. Government is not the only one.

A year ago, I saw a private health service with machines under Windows 97.
It annoyed me very much, more so because I was personnally concerned, having a relative in this place.

Sorry for nagging, but do the latest posts still comply with the topic of this thread (Windows 10)?
When I notice new posts in this thread I wouldn't expect discussions about possible threats by using outdated versions wheresoever. That's a topic of its own IMHO.

According to MsPowerUser, London Met Police's 18 000 Windows XP PCs is a disaster waiting to happen.

https://mspoweruser.com/london-metro...ing-to-happen/

I think this may be slightly exaggerated.

According to MsPowerUser,
"The police force has already started upgrading its PCs from Windows XP — but rather than upgrading to Windows 10, the force is upgrading the PCs to Windows 8.1 instead."

Steve O’Connell, the spokesman of the 0Conservative London Assembly said in a statement:
“The Met is working towards upgrading its software, but in its current state it’s like a fish swimming in a pool of sharks. It is vital the Met is given the resources to step up its upgrade timeline before we see another cyber-attack with nationwide security implications.”

I wonder who might be behind MsPowerUser, Microsoft ?

Surely at London Met Police there must be sensible persons who know their job.

so the(my) Question is: Why don't upgrade the PC's to Windows 7, which will be supported until 2020(if no longer with look at the Win10-sluggishness)? I think every PC that runs XP will run 7 - maybe will a little help from an Memory(RAM)-Update...

Quite true.
You're perfectly right.
I have no idea why they did that.

i personally believe that the software, OS s and aged PCs are not a concern, if they are isolated. once they connect and are networked, danger will robinson. At home, i always use Linux for anything telecom, if i do use windows (any edition) i insist that it be isolated and not connected in any way to any network whatsoever. If i do absolutely have to connect with a windows PC, it is for extremely short periods.

Windows 10 is just Microsoft insisting that it can release an OS revision by force, whereas the Windows 8 release was a flop, it was an optional flop.

Anyone remember the Netscape syndrome?, MS forcing the internet explorer after the optional offering was a failure.

Some government departments are running PCs that are 10-15 years old. The trouble is, they're signed up to outrageous contracts with IT providers where they are paying hundreds, sometimes thousands, of pounds per desktop PC in service per annum. It's the contracts that are the fault. Bulk buying ten of thousands of decent enough spec new desktops would drill the price right down but instead they award long term contracts to companies that rip them off by charging thousands upon thousands of pounds for a single desktop PC over its life span.
