The last few months i've been selling much more than collecting , which given that i've more or less kept every comic / magazine or item i ever bought since i was ten and started earning my own money (Paper rounds/washing cars / loan sharking) is still a really weird experience.
Have been selling my things through every way imaginable , even going to local collectors shops and meeting some right weird guys ( Rich coming from me i admit) and it's all down to two people . One is my ex who did sort of finally get through to me by helping me see that if you need three Big Yellow storage rooms you've really got too much stuff. The other is someone who`s probably forgotten all about it and the advice he gave , which is cool as why live in the past. This month i`m concentrating on trying to reduce the number of comics i've got by offering them for sale , turns out that`s harder than it seems. Not selling them i mean offering them as whenever i try and organise them i end up bloody sitting there reading the buggers and believe me those storage places aren`t that warm !. Right now i`m re-reading this series , instead of getting off my arse and selling it

This is a quality series, especially the great run done by Doug Moench & Paul Gulacy up to around issue # 50. Haven't got many of the later issues, but there's some good Mike Zeck art in some of them.

My collections .....
Comic Books. I have well over 2000 individual issues. Sports Cards. Baseball, Football(US), Hockey, Basketball, NASCAR, and some from the movies. Movie One-Sheets. Over 200 that I got from when I worked at the local cineplex from 1997-2001. I also have numerous lobby banners, buttons, t-shirts, from various films as well. Books. As an avid reader the number of books I have could start a library. A lot of science fiction but a few thrillers mixed in. It's mostly in paperbacks but all in good shape. Magazines. Two in particular - Leg Show & PB Lingerie. I have a few select issues of mainstream mags such as Sports Illustrated and Time. Action Figures. All mint-in-package that include X-Men, Austin Powers, & a few Star Wars Ep.1. I look to find values on any and all of this, but on some it's hard. The one thing I know is that they all have value to me and that is what matters the most.

Collections
I used to be amazed at the variety of things people collect. Not any more. Just asking people what they collect has brought me some very interesting responses - one bloke was collecting the appendices (plural of appendix) of everyone of his children after they were removed! I reckon you'd have to wait a long time to bring that one naturally into a discussion.
For myself: Guitars: Mainly acoustic - Ovations, Matons, Ibanez, Fender, a Les Paul - one of my guitars has been played by Aussie Legend (now deceased) Ted Mulray and the AC/DC original bass guitar player, and a couple of other legends from around the place. Sadly, some of them were water damaged in a massive flood at my apartment block recently. Books: have over 4000 - mostly military WW2, SCiFi, Fantasy, Techo Thriller, Computers: I have a range dating back to my first 1987 ATari with a blistering 8Mhz, No HD and half a meg of Ram! Still use it too! Computer Games: I have several hundred dating back to the mid eighties right up to now. Star Wars memorabilia: Selected space craft, figurines and the Master Replicas Lightsabres (I have 5) My own artwork: I illustrate in my spare time (some bits posted here) and have recently started handwriting the hobbit and illustrating it for my kids for when they grow up. My walls are littered with my own work. Lead Figurines: I paint lead figurines - typically fantasy based stuff. I had several thousand as a youngster, however lost the lot in the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983 Vintage Porn with Slips in it: I like the old films where the actresses wore slips. They were usually their own and it made it more interesting. I alos collect slips themselves and have over 500.

I have a collection of race bicycles and spare parts. I did not want to collect them, but I had more and more of them, because allways when I got good offers I could not resist.
Frames are Steelframes from "De Rosa" by Hugo de Rosa, and from his "apprentice" in framemaking Eddy Merckx, the famous five time tour and giro winner. Components are Campagnolo C Record (with the famous delta brakes). |
