There were multiple instances of that. There was also a TV show at the time about NYC police and firefighters that donated all their vehicles to the city to help them rebuild their fleets after the losses in equipment suffered on 9/11.

Exclamation Did you know

It`s claimed more American civil war soldiers died through dysentery and chronic diarrhea than actual battle wounds. In fact they say a code quickly developed between both sides that you couldn't shoot at a man if he was crouching , trousers around his ankles with bare bum close to the ground

No, I`m not joking

Up until sometime in the 20th Century it was normal to lose more troops to disease than in combat.

Before then a seige was always risky, disease might break out in the beseiged city. helping the attackers, or it might break out among the attackers. Usually both sides were decimated by disease with high body counts but unpredictable results.

Indeed, even in the 20th Century disease was a factor in many battles. On the eve of the Battle of El Alamein, a portion of the German troops were down with dysentry, including Erwin Rommel.

The Germans had no standards for hygiene. They would crap on the ground only a few metres from their camp, and then go and have a meal, surrounded by buzzing flies that had just been feasting on the faeces.

The British, on the other hand, had been fighting in the desert for centuries, and had developed very strict regulations about when and were you took a shit.

Go to the following link and watch this video for this contribution to the "did you know" thread.....I was moved by this.
This is about Kevin Costner helping & almost giving up on a friend and their connection to his most well known (arguably his best) film.

Lightbulb From 270 to 206 bones

The human skeleton is the internal framework of the body.
It is composed of around 270 bones at birth – this total decreases to around 206 bones by adulthood after some bones get fused together.
The bone mass in the skeleton reaches maximum density around age 21.

The axial skeleton (80 bones) is formed by the vertebral column (32–34 bones; the number of the vertebrae differs from human to human as the lower 2 parts, sacral and coccygeal bone may vary in length), a part of the rib cage (12 pairs of ribs and the sternum), and the skull (22 bones and 7 associated bones).

The appendicular skeleton (126 bones) is formed by the pectoral girdles, the upper limbs, the pelvic girdle or pelvis, and the lower limbs. Their functions are to make locomotion possible and to protect the major organs of digestion, excretion and reproduction.

The mass of the "dry" skeleton, that is to say without the red marrow, is 4 to 6 kilograms on average in men and 3 to 4 kilograms in women. The longest bone of the body is the femur; the smallest is the stirrup which lies in the middle ear.

The majority of organs are outside the skeleton except for the brain inside the skeleton.

Did you know the origin of the phrase dog gone ( as in "well I'll be doggone") was a way of not saying god damn and not allowing someone to blaspheme against God. I am pretty sure l have heard in cartoons like Scooby Doo a different alternative goll darn or even gosh darn.

Jeepers Creepers

Did you know that if a 220,000 volt power line has fallen and you're within 10 meters of it, while walking away from the danger your steps must be about 1 meter apart No, you didn't know It's called step potential and it is very possible current can flow up one leg and down the other your balls may feel a very tingly sensation See, a VEF mod provides a very community spirited bit of advice thinking of your balls wellbeing

Would you trust me with high voltage

In French older generations were used to say: "Nom de bleu" (name of blue) which has absolutely no sense , instead of "Nom de Dieu" (God's name).

"Nom de Dieu" is often used as an insult when something wrong or bad happens.
