I know what you mean. But these people - or at least their company - helped drive the world economy over a cliff, including individuals, companies, and they were even ripping off countries with bad advice

They weren't "contributing". They were taking everyone for a ride, including you (and me)

So I have no sympathy

There aren't enough incarcerated banksters. This is wrong

But I have an idea

You convict more of them. Then you do a deal to send them to Russian and Chinese prisons because there is overcrowding in USA 'establishments'

Then they can do something productive, like breaking rocks

Why should Americans pay gazillions for those parasites, when Eastern states have better pest control?

You're 100% right regarding bankers, I've little sympathy for them.
I'm more concerned with things that actually contribute to the economy, like manufacturing jobs.
They've all gone East, or in the case of the US, West.

Not to be misunderstood, but banks can and should be contributors - by allocating capital to the right places

But some are clearly very irresponsible when they are unregulated, and more of them should be in prison for fraud

Seems that there is some doubt over the accuser of Strauss-Kahn(ex IMF Chief) namely the maid is telling porkies. He has been freed without bail and had some of his $6m(£3.7m) cash bail and bond returned. The case is now close to collapse say US Media (Ceefax)

And the media have been falling all over themselves to distance themselves from having intimated he was guilty. I have been listening to them all day (ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, FOX, etc...) as they go on and on about "this is why we say allegedly" or "we really shouldn't have shown him being perp walked".

They will be shame faced for a few days, then some new crime will come along and they will be all over it again.

I have seen it many times over the years with Gary Condit & Chandra Levy, the Duke University Lacrosse players, the Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta, and the Anthrax scare.

It makes me want to puke.

Indeed. With the size of his bank account, he could claim that she was the one trying to rape him and still be admissible in court.

This sort of thing is happening on a smaller and larger scale all the time.
The West is gradually changing itself into an economic and industrial backwater.
I won't be surprised if protectionism becomes a very big issue in the next few years.
When were the US not protectionist? It's much harder for foreign companies to establish themselves on US market than vice versa. Ronald Reagan, the Manitu of US libertarian fanatics, was the most rigorous protectionist US president during the last 30 years. I've been writing about this here before, so I'll avoid going into details this time. Gotta love the Greek recently.
