There's something I find a bit wrong about it so I don't. I remember regularly jerking off to pictures of Mel Appleby but I stopped when I heard she'd died. Although I did wank over her not long before and I remember feeling guilty as she might have died by then.

There have been psychological experiments which show that if you think a spirit or being is watching you, you will not behave in 'bad' ways. This was illustrated on the TV show Derren Brown presents where he had a hidden camera in a room where people were doing a physical test. The person who was supposed to be conducting the test gets called out of the room unexpectedly and the participent was asked to doing their own score keeping for the test. The hidden camera revealed that they often cheated when no one was there to check they were keeping an accurate score.

However the test was also done with an empty chair in the room. The participent was told not to sit in it as it was haunted & a person had died in it. As a result when they were left alone in the room to register their test scores they generally didn't lie about their mistakes because they imagined that they were being watched by an invisible spirit.

This explains why the idea of God watching you is useful even though there is absolutely no reason to believe any invisible beings exist at all. What you are talking about falls into the same category: it's a psychological phenomena. You imagine the dead person is watching so you can't whack off! Personally I don't believe in spirits or gods so I can even whack off in a church if I want to (but the congregation tend to frown on it when I do!)
