It was always a bit worrying porn mags locally, just in case someone you knew saw you making the purchase! I did once catch my old man delving through the top shelf of a newsagent in our local town once - slightly embarrassing.

Always used to find it a bit of a turn on buying a mag when served by a woman and used to wonder if they were aware of my semi hard cock.

Probably said this already, but buying porn was something I always found terrifying. It was only when my purchase was safely under my coat and I was out of sight of the shop and safely away from anybody who might have witnessed my activity that the thumping heartbeat of terror was replaced seamlessly by the thumping heartbeat of teenage anticipation of the hours of furtive masturbation ahead of me.

I only remember it being a turn on once when a very ordinary but kind middle aged lady smiled at me and asked if I wanted a bag. Then suddenly it became a huge turn on knowing that a real female woman of the opposite sex with boobs and a fanny and everything was fully aware of what I was going to be doing in the near future and wasn't openly disgusted by it.

This is intriguing. Why did we only seem to want to buy from middle-aged fermales? When you think about it, a woman is the last person you'd think you'd want to buy from, but it just seemed easier didn't it?

I'm sure people who rob shops must go through less planning than I did. Waiting for the shop to empty, cursing the woman with kids getting there before you and deciding to do a 'go-around'. Then it was a case of in, shuffle near the magazines, flick eyes up to top shelf, carefully position for the grab. Check the coast is clear again and then causually arrive at the counter, grab a newspaper and somehow shuffle them together. Pay, wait for the newsagent to stumble over the price while you cursed under your breath 'Come onnnnn'...then out and away. Job done,....but what a rush eh?

I always made a point of buying from middle-aged ladies, even once I was old enough to be at ease with buying. Even once I discovered the tiny shop in my locality with the huge range of niche mags, I always bought from the "mother" of the shop. Once I was an established regular buyer of certain titles, she started selling me the ones "from the back room" and ultimately hardcore porn (bootleg) videos, which were hard to get then (early to mid 90s).

Cultivating her got me through to the invention of internet porn. I wish I could have fucked her...

For me, the "Middle-Aged Woman" thing was very definite, but it wasn't in any way sexual. I'd never buy from a bloke serving, I wouldn't be able to stand their knowing smirk which would just leave me feeling inadequate. I'd equally well avoid young or attractive female assistants because (a) I didn't want anyone I might potentially have a relationship with one day thinking I was a porn-loving w*nker (pathetic, I know), and (b) I wouldn't be able to stand their knowing smirk which would just leave me feeling inadequate. In fact, I rate in my top two occasions in the all-time embarrassment stakes as the day circa 1991 that I chose to buy a dirty mag from a petrol station, and the assistant was a really tall, nice looking blonde, maybe a year or two younger than me (I'd be in my late 20s). My face burned with shame as she grinned "have fun with your magazine" at me. Some guys would have answered her back, or even revelled in her banter, but it cut me to the quick, I can tell you. As I turned, flustered and sweating from the shop to make my exit, she delivered the coup de grāce with a whispered (but just lound enough for me to hear) "wanker".
That episode damaged me severely for ages afterwards - and the magazine was crap after all that!
I never got that sort of crap from the typical bored, mumsy 50-year old women that seemed to staff most 80s and 90s newsagents, hence my preference!

It's funny how differently we react to a situation girlfan.

While she was not an attractive blonde I quote an earlier posting of mine.

It may have stuck in my memory but I've never lost sleep over it or found it embarrassing.

There are plenty of women who think porn mags are exploiting women. It's probable that is what blonde thought/thinks.
i usually flip the argument and say the women are exploiting us!

And there are plenty of married men with healthy sex lives who buy magazines - my pal sends his wife in to buy them for him!

Great stories which brings back memories!

I started buying from newsagents when I was 14 and was tall for my age which gave me a bit of courage.

What I did was I used to do a recce of newsagents away from neighbourhood (similarly when I was 18+ I'd go to sex shops 30miles from hometown) and it had to have only a guy on till and no women or their offspring, etc. When I found a good one I went their regularly in the morning, preferably try and do the browsing and purchasing before 7pm because then it was more likely more customers would come in. If there were customers behind me I had 'play it cool, you are The Fonz' looping in my head and that stopped me blushing even though I was panicking inside!

I remember getting the American titles like Velvet and Swank and thinking 'holy shit!' spread pussy lips and big dicks! At least the UK titles in their day were great at teasing you but I personally found them going downhill in the late 90s.

This brings back memories with me.

My 'coming of age' was in the late 90s, and in my town, there were a couple of shops with huge top shelves. In my very first mag shopping experiences, a middle-aged Asian woman was my chief porn seller. Perfect for me as the shop tended to be quiet at the times I was able to go, and the time I spent pacing up and down the long long aisle looking at all the titles choosing went well. She was always discreet, never made any kind of comment, and I suspect she sold a lot of magazines to boys of my (not quite 18) age.

A few years later, I'd decided to start collecting mags properly. That shop was still there, as was the lady, but it was regularly sold out of the 6 Paul Raymond titles I was buying monthly. I was only able to get a trip in every 3-4 weeks, often getting there on the final day before the next issues came out. Many a wet winter's afternoon was spent wandering around town desperately seeking a copy of Razzle or Men's World before it disappeared from the shelves! And I landed on another shop, right on the other edge of the city centre, which was smaller but also had an impressive top shelf. Crucially, it nearly always had a great stock of the Paul Raymond titles right up to their sell-by date. I remember being much more nervous as the woman in there was probably not much older than me - a mid to late 20s, not unattractive Asian lady. Again, she was always discreet and seemed to appreciate that this was just something some men do. Even the time I managed to bring the entire top shelf contents crashing to the floor she was sound. However I later understood why. One day I visited the old shop, and saw her with the other woman behind the counter. They were mother and daughter, running the family shops. Tolerance ran within the family.

Agree with you on blokes selling. For a couple of years I bought from a local petrol station, typically served by the same guy. One day he tried to strike up a conversation with me, mentioning his favourites were Escort and Razzle because of the stories. At that moment I just didn't want to have a conversation in public about the 5 or so magazines I'm trying to buy.

I've only had one catty remark ever. Having tried everywhere for one particular issue of (I think) Razzle, when wandering past a shop mainly frequented by students that mostly sold energy drinks and booze. On their relatively empty magazine racks sat the issue I needed. The shop was never empty, and the assistants tended to be local students. I decided to go back later that night nearer closing time and buy no matter what the situation was - better than missing an issue. On entering I went straight for the top shelf, grabbed the mag, and turned straight to the counter. The shop was mercifully empty bar me and a very pierced young lady, no more than 20, clearly a wannabe goth. The checkout was tearse, I paid and got my change, and as I was turning to walk out, she said 'there's much better stuff on the internet you know'. Not sure what I was supposed to say to that really. "Yes, but I like the magazine format"? "I like the regular girl"? "I collect this and you were the only place in a 5 mile radius still selling this issue"? None would work. I settled for an unconvincing glare and wished I hadn't had to shop there. But I got the issue and it didn't put me off.

I remember me and my friend in the 1970's always use to buy our sweets on the way home from school in a sweetshop that had Whitehouse under the glass counter!
We used to take ages selecting our sweets for some reason!!
