As adverts are handled by 3rd parties (meaning not by the forum itself or the forums staff) some of them sometimes come with dangerous scripts. The fact that, as you say, "no other site does this", doesn't mean other sites are clean, so to speak.

Install Adblock if you know how, if not go to https://adblockplus.org/ and look there, it's available for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome/Chromium, Opera, Safari (Mac) and even the basic browser that comes into Android systems (smartphones, tablets).

It updates itself whenever is needed and stops all this crap right away.

By the way, don't think you're safe because you're running antivirus... stuff gets in anyways, especially if you browse porn sites or even adult-labeled images on free image hosting sites. The user is ALWAYS the first barrier or the first open door when it comes to viruses, malware and those nasty things.

One last thing I almost forget: running 2 antiviruses is not good, it has never been good or safer. It's the cause of technical problems you could even not be aware of, there's a high probability that they're in conflict with each other and the user doesn't even notice, also they can be a pain in the ass sometimes when you try to install, remove or even copy stuff.
If one of those antiviruses is an online service, it could be a lot worse.

I am running MalwareBytes premium, in tandem with TrendMicro Security and for several weeks in March and April I received the "Dangerous Site" warning message whenever I logged in to VEF.

During the last 10 days the warning has disappeared, and I suspect one of the third party advertisers has changed something or been replaced.

Speaking as a man who works in a repair shop, I've never recommended people having two anti virus's running on the same machine, as they can quite often conflict, and cause your machine to run both slowly, and with more errors.

But if you're happy, go for it. The 'Malwareantimalwarebytes' suggestion should sort out any issues with basic pop ups and all forms of spam, malware, and other naughties.
You can find a free version on the usual site that resembles the name of a fat river dwelling african animal......... Or failing that, check out the thread we have here on 'useful programs'.

Red face 'Threat detected' / pirrains.com

There was a thread devoted to this and other problems when the site was in trouble some months back, so this may belong in a different thread. I have no trouble when entering at the home page but get a 'threat detected' every time when entering via Google.

I use Avast Free and there are a number of problems that come up at different times. Sometimes a website is mentioned. Recently it lists pirrains.com. Seems to be a data site started in Germany in February.

I get this nowhere else. Avast seems to block the this and other reputed malware/viruses but it's still un-nerving.

pirrains.com is a gate domain:

I use Avast, and I haven't seen what you have.

I also use MWB PRO together with MWB Anti-Exploit PRO (for zero-day threats) and MS Security Essentials but no problems being reported on VEF. I have seen malware on this site only rarely in my years as a member here so, as others suggest, it seems to be connected with the adverts rather than the site itself.

Default Do you get an alert from Avast whenever you enter by Google?

Thanks - could you please define for me exactly what a gate domain is? From what I can guess it monitors traffic at this site but is engaged by a third party, not VEF.

Also, Usually I get a technical code describing the threat but recently I've had some of these web sites, with perrain the most. I've don't recall Avast alerts mentioning websites at any time.

McLinc wrote in Post 3: "As adverts are handled by 3rd parties (meaning not by the forum itself or the forums staff) some of them sometimes come with dangerous scripts. The fact that, as you say, "no other site does this", doesn't mean other sites are clean, so to speak.

I'm sure McLinc's last comment is true but it makes it clearer and muddier for me at the same time. But why is this the only site Avast complains of other than truly malicious or infected sites? Could this be left over from the attacks of a few months back?

PS - first link gets many interesting security articles but I see nothing about perrains. Cannot open the other one right now. Thanks.

No VEF bug problems such as this for a long time on this particular laptop.
OS W7, Chrome, AddBlock Plus add-on, no issues.
This system *has* seen problems here before, but not in awhile.

My Linux systems never see a problem, nor my MACs.
