We need help to continue some of the existing section perks. These would be the Hall of Fame Game, the Directories of Solved Requests, and the Directories of Unfolded Mysteries. If anyone wishes to take these on just send me a message. These are all things which could be done as a regular member and on your own schedule. |

I see a few of the same photos in both requests, so I will merge them, using the 2010 request for the root.
Thanks for the match up Immy!

model request without photo
Hello everyone, can I make a model request if i don't have a photo? I can only describe what I have seen in the past (from early 90s).

There has been some discussion in the past as to how requests which match an XNK designated model in one of the major databases should be handled. The model section Mods don't like this sort of thread title but it is important for all the information which has been amassed here to be preserved. We've hashed it over some and this is the department policy, at least for now:
We will mark the request thread as being solved. Then the thread will be moved intact to the PMT where it can be preserved and the members can continue to add relevant material. It will remain there until such time as it can be moved to one of the model thread sections. |

Sounds a good idea, I'm just a little worried that if those threads were moved to the PMT section they might get forgotten about. What I mean is, several of our members (especially the ones who only visit Model I.D occaisionally) may not bother looking in that subsection.
Would it make the threads more visible to have a new "models unknown on any database" type of subsection thingy to keep them in a more prominent position and hopefully more content added? Just an opinion, it needs to be whatever works best for you guys. New sections would increase your (the mods) workload and it's quite high already.

I doubt this would fly with others/mods. but: in my view members shouldn't be able to start model threads except in an area such as a PMT section (not necessarily within/under the MIR umbrella). That would help to "corral" folks who start threads with e.g. the first CeeCee name they find, or without any evidence for the thread/model name posted inside the thread itself, & various other such lacks.
Provided it remained an area of active interest for others, similar to how MIR works, there'd be scope for people to match such threads up with existing ones, or add info. to refine ids as well as contribute content, etc. In such a scenario many threads would quickly progress to the relevant sections--cp, sm, modern, etc.--while others would have to linger awhile until better info. was gleaned. The objective is simply to add some rigour to the way in which threads are shaped. We all know that there has to be much looseness with MIR queries & bits & pieces being assembled because that's an organic process, but the PMT idea is about the desire to then organise a thread into a better shape--e.g. including relevant info. in the first post such as aliases, links to relevant indexes such as iafd, egafd, etc.--before "releasing" it more widely. Those are the sorts of things that don't seem to be being consistently done within some model thread sections, as we occasionally find turning up in relation to some MIR queries. But maybe I'm simply expressing a forlorn hope that by such means the general membership can help lift the game of model section mods? Oh right, go wash my mouth out. |

You've pretty much summed it up, there. Don't forget we have a very dedicated core group of scholars in this section along with others who just have a vast knowledge of the various models and performers. But this is a tiny percentage of the members who contribute to the model sections and an even tinier percentage of those who simply enjoy the show.
Creating a new subsection was considered but for now the PMT should suffice. If we start to accumulate a more significant number of XNK threads then a dedicated subsection would be justified. |
