SPOILER WARNING!!!
Quote:
I generally preferred the remake to the original due to the score which added a much-needed unity to the story that I thought was lacking in the original. I also loved the actors. I thought Monica Potter was underutilized in Saw (which I liked) and it was nice to see her get a larger role. Sara Paxton was great too as Mari. I loved how the writers/directors made swimming a vital part of her character. It was a symbolic way of cleansing herself of the devastation of being raped and attacked. I also liked how the husband and wife worked together to avenge the rape and beatings suffered on their daughter. (SPOILER WARNING....) As for the microwave scene, I totally agree. I felt that the movie could've ended after the family left in the boat, leaving viewers to wonder what the future had in store for them. I always wondered if the movie was about survival or revenge. The remake seemed a bit ambiguous about that theme. Hopefully, we won't have to endure any sequels in the future and let this story stand on its own!

Carrie (2013)
I saw the remake of Carrie and actually liked it! To prove that I am not completely insane, I do believe that the 1976 [version starring the lovely Sissy Spacek will go down as the definitive interpretation of the film. That being said, there were a few things about the 2013 remake that I liked that I think deserve recognition. The Incorporation of Social Media - It's 2015 and everyone is online, posting videos, pictures, etc. The remake added these features to the story, which was a plus. Online bullying has become a huge issue in high school today, and I thought it was good to acknowledge that reality. Great Score by Marco Beltrami - The score featured a strong melody that screamed Revenge. Great Chemistry between Julianne Moore and Chloë Grace Moretz - Some have suggested that Chloe was far too pretty to play the role of Carrie (she is very pretty, IMO). But can't we interpret that as the other girls being jealous of her and wanting to use her as their punching bag to resolve their own faults? Chloe's Interpretation of Carrie - You should never try to imitate another actress's interpretation of a character. Do your own thing. Great Special Effects - This is kind of unfair since Brian de Palma didn't have the resources in 1976 that Kimberly Pierce had in 2013, but the special effects were pretty good. Overall, I'd recommend a viewing of this film IF you are a die-hard fan of the original and love Horror flicks!

Soon they're going to release remakes of movies barely older than 5 years.

Spiderman 3 was the last of the 'trilogy' starring Toby Maguire and Kirstin Dunst, and this last film was released in 2007. THEN they did a new 'origins' reboot starring Andrew Garfield, and this was released in 2012! There's nothing you can really add to that is there? |

It seems they're going to do a remake of ROOTS!
Dunno why. I can't imagine it'll add anything, unless it mentions that at least 'some' slaves weren't stolen but bought from slave-traders who were black african themselves. I doubt it though.

The remake of Roots has already been made and aired on History last year.

Roots: The Saga of an American Family (Author: Alex Haley) PLOT: One morning when Kunta is cutting wood to make a drum, he is captured by several toubob slave-traders (toubob: men with white skins who smell like wet chickens). After a nightmarish journey across the Atlantic on board the British slave ship Lord Ligonier, he is landed in Annapolis in the British colony of Maryland. Despite an attempted mutiny by the slaves, he is transported across the Atlantic Ocean to the Colony of Virginia. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roots_(2016_miniseries))
