I personally have felt that she needed to get out of the way for some time. She is old. That does not mean that she is stupid. She may be repeating talking points because folks aren't listening. It is likely to be interpreted as that she is doddering. What has become increasingly clear is that a large swath of young people is not willing to follow her lead.

I'm almost 70 so I understand what she is trying to do. She wants the Democrats in Congress to focus on what they can accomplish and avoid alienating swing voters by adopting positions too far left and aiming for partisan retribution.

However, there is a flaw in the strategy. At some point along the way, younger folks stop listening to us. We may be smart. We may be wise. None the less, we are tuned out. Also, at some point, we lose the sense of the moment. Sadly, younger generations often have to reinvent the wheel and learn lessons for themselves. It is hard to judge this, because cognitive decline is very real and we can be the last to know. (I am aware of my own because as a contract bridge player I frequently have the experience that I cannot recall how to handle situations in which I used to have mastery. Well, I did. I finally got so frustrated that I quit playing.)

If you are lucky, some day all too soon this will happen to you. But y'all might do well to slow down and try to get what she is trying to tell you. Even if Nancy Pelosi is past her prime, she is one smart political animal. She has forgotten more than most of you guys will ever learn.

Then maybe she will get that she needs to pass the torch ASAP.

Heavy hitter - only as in hitting the sauce heavily.

She's corrupt (most of her hubbie's fortune was made in gov't contracts or gov't regulations after she got elected),

She's incompetent - managed to preside over 4 consecutive meltdowns of her party share of congress,

She's incapable of working with others - i.e. "you'll know whats in the bill after it's passed", and

She's toast - the Democratic Socialist wing have posted a big target on her back (they claim they have enough votes to block her from becoming speaker again - how much of a heavy hitter can you be if 50+% of your own party hates your guts enough to make it a campaign promise to oust you).
