I'm not sure, the reports are mixed.
https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/ea...closer-to-home https://www.scmp.com/topics/migrant-workers-china https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...kers-condemned From what I gather squatting and other unseemly behaviors can earn one a quick trip to a "re-education" facility. |

I wondered about China's homeless because I have been reading about the opposite - the Chinese mainland uber rich. After watching that movie - Crazy Rich Asians - regarding Chinese Singaporian mega rich - I read the sequel - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_Rich_Girlfriend - China Rich Girlfriend - significant portions of the book are dedicated to the lives of the children of the new billionaires made in Communist China - supposedly derived from real life events. The stories of conspicuous consumption were rather hard to believe, but interviews with the author said the most glaring examples were not included in the book. The rise of Chinese mainland billionaires has been startling. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...e_by_net_worth
Extreme poverty has been dramatically reduced - but income inequality is still huge - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poverty_in_China The following article just seems to be regarding the upper middle class - multi-millionaires, not the mega wealthy. These "rich" kids are hated by the majority of the population. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/featu...na-s-rich-kids Note the references to Audi's. That book explained lots of wealthy Chinese drive Audi's because government officials ride in Audi's. The rich believe the authorities don't watch the Audi's as much as the others because of this. Also because of strict laws, the super wealthy drive their lambo's, Maserati's, etc. outside of China - often racing each other, causing accidents, bad press, etc. Finding articles that support this book's version of the facts - https://www.businessinsider.com/chin...ub-envy-2013-4 - is not hard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sH8sSKwS_gU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoeUxzUR4ec Certainly, I am thinking "a let them eat cake" attitude will cause violent changes in China. Communism seems to produce spoiled rich kids at a rate greater than Capitalism. I guess I just have been ignorant of these changes. They better keep their no guns laws for the poor if the China rich want to keep up this wealth gap. Amazing the changes in my lifetime. Last edited by Rogerbh; August 30th, 2018 at 10:51 AM.. |

There are over 1.415 billion people in China.
The proportion of middle class and millionaire class population is small. Most of their people are still living in the country, farming land, living in stone houses some with no running water and electricity. Out of that 1.415 billion, only 1.34 million are millionaires and 334 are billionaires, per 2017 data. The wage of the middle class is about $1,136 a month in factories in cities like Shanghai which to them is a fortune. The average hourly pay in Chinese factories varies too. Can be for as little as 60 cents per hour to $2 per hour average to as much as $3.50 per hour. Many American and western companies put their factories in China so they can get away with paying them nothing. Many of the workers in those factories barely take home $300 a month after working 11 hours days plus anywhere from 50 to 130 hours of overtime each month. Companies like Nike and Mattel and Disney and Apple. You should also see where they live in those communal apartment buildings. |

A judge has ordered the thieving GoFundMe couple to hand over the money to the homeless man:
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/cou...L&ocid=DELLDHP If a lot is gone, can they be charged with fraud, I wonder? I still think in a few months we will see a blurb about how the homeless man's stiffening corpse was found in a ditch with a bottle of OxyContin in one hand and a crack pipe in the other. Druggies get lots of money, they usually do lots of drugs - until they die. I think there have been a few cases of lottery winners doing this, or their druggie relatives, who get handed a big brick of cash.

What happens next? I am guessing the lawyer for the homeless guy files a suit, and the stealers will have to pay a garnishment to the homeless guy for some time. The lawyer will get half, which will leave the homeless guy with a couple of hundred bucks a month. Which he will promptly withdraw from his account and spend on drugs. I guess the upside is all the money fleeced from the charitable sheep went into the pockets of legitimate businesses rather than the pockets of drug dealers. This will make people less likely to give to "charitable" causes like this, though.

Well, if they are like me, they gave some money to feel good, not because they thought it would change anyone's life. Maybe they will give more to people taking care of stray animals rather than a specific homeless druggie.
As to legitimate businesses, that husband was/is a gambler and I would hazard to bet - that he blew a large chunk of it at casinos. If he is truly the turd I think he is, he cashed out what was left and hid it. Line them up and shoot them. Enhance the gene pool. |

If the $400,000 is all gone, where's this $20,000 coming from?

Guessing the company fronted the money to offset all the bad press this story has caused.
It must have caused a big drop in donations. |
