As you probably observed... I like to debate.

The point of view I exposed sounds very nihilistic or cynical... but why our self-conscious and ethical evolved species has to continue? Why at least the most realistic members of our species would have progeny?

Don't we have to peacefully let our place to non ethical, to non self-conscious creatures? Don't we have to share this life with the nicest members of our generations and then disappear?

Everyday we read horrible stories, we see our elderly losing their physical and mental capacities during years, we are ill, we DAILY are preoccupied to survive, we kill creatures that want to live too.

That's what I personally observed. How do you see ... life?

Here's a story that I saw about the homeless the other day. kind of sad that we have not figured out about our homeless situation just trying to ship them out as far from an answer.

I suppose it makes a sort of sense if winter is coming and there is no shelter space for all of them, and it's a city in a cold place.

I wouldn't want to be a homeless person where I live right now. Well below zero degrees Fahrenheit and it's going to be even colder tonight. Even properly equipped with military arctic gear an overnight stay outdoors would not be pleasant.

The "people in charge" have been refusing to properly address the problems of poverty for decades, and with the Republicans rampant in Washington don't expect the situation to improve anytime soon. More homeless will be coming to a city near you.

It is not just the "people in charge" who are to blame. There is a great deal of pressure from the middle and more prosperous elements of the working class against building low income housing near them and to relocate existing housing for lower income people. Somewhere along the line the idea that "we are all in this together" got eroded by the deliberate actions by past governments to reinforce and perpetuate racial segregation and actively undermine African American community life in the name of "urban renewal."

"Urban renewal" policies also undermined the security of seniors and the working poor. Like it or not, income distribution in all societies winds up in a pyramidal shape. Responsible government requires making sure that enough wealth is left in the bottom ranks to meet basic human needs.

While you're absolutely correct on this point read the papers or listen to the politicians. We hear them rail against police and fire personnel for their "Lavish" pensions while they all get a pension after one term in office. They cut their healthcare because "we just can't afford it" or "Public employee unions have to be reeled in".

Teachers are paid terribly but why not because, "They only work half the year" this despite the professional development they are required to complete is done during the other "half" year and ten at their own expense.

Nurses work not only awful schedules but in many cases get no compensation for holidays, worked or otherwise and are uniformly terrified of being fired by company hatchet men who report on anyone who mentions the prospect of unionization. Of course the CEO and CMOs are getting several millions of dollars a year and the members of the board of directors several hundred thousand for meeting a few hours a month, usually to vote on a raise for the person who appointed them.

So you're assertion while correct, is counter to the actions of what the pols WE vote for actually do.

The two groups are bolted where the actual Targets of the whole program to begin with They just put a darker face on it to tamp down the the protest level from the general public it is sort of like voter suppression going after the young voter when the media talks about is going after the Black and Latino voters. They know because of economic and demographic realities this generation is going to be far to left of generations that came before it and because of that is why they are real targets of voter suppression . It is so much so that both parties are participating in it

Conversation I had with a resident of a hostel just before finishing my 12hr nightshift at 6am this morning.....

R - "Can I borrow your lighter?"
ME - "What for?"
R - "To light my candles in my room"
ME - "You're not allowed to have candles in your room, as it's against the rules, just like smoking in the building"
R - "But I don't smoke, I just want to light a candle"
ME "But it falls into same category as smoking, it's a naked flame"
R - "How is a fuckin' candle a naked flame?"
ME - "If you can't understand why then you're too stupid to use a lighter, now go away!"

.... Some days/nights, I give up, I really do....

I'm sure he found someone to give him matches and lit his candles anyway. You can't get people like that to follow the rules. Keep a fire extinguisher handy and know where all the exits are.
