Quote:
Those American girls. Sitting primly in their sleek swimsuits hands behind their heads, their breasts like happy nose cones. They were look but dont touch girls. Pictures of these dolls were called cheesecake. Supposedly the term comes from a photographers trick to induce a smile: Say cheese. But a distant fable says that, in 1912, New York Journal photographer James Kane was developing a photo of an actress whose gown had slipped open. The man was at a loss for words at this vision of delicious flesh. All he could finally say was What cheesecake! What cheesecake! was probably the first exclamation out of Louis K. Meisels mouth when he was a baby in 1950s Brooklyn, N.Y. Meisel is perhaps the foremost expert on the American pinup, that cultural icon whose golden age occurred between 1930 and 1960, when pastel and airbrushed paintings of long-legged, busty dames graced magazine covers, barbershop calendars and even the sides of Air Force bombers. In the past 20 years, there has been a resurgence of interest in cheesecake. Everything that youve seen happening, without bragging, is 100 percent due to my efforts for showing pinups as fine art in this gallery, Meisel says. Im a collector first before Im a dealer, he says. Somewhere back around 1975 it occurred to me that the original works by the pinup artists of the 30s, 40s and 50s were absolutely undercollected, undershown there is more text at the web page but the above seems to answer the question |

Nice, I remember the only way to get pictures of beautifull women in lingerie or spandex was fashion magazines, thorugh the regular mail. (I'm talking at age 15 somewhere before internet in 1995.)

Well, from a Romanian post card from the '70's with Mamaia (The Grandma) * Black Sea Resort
Bellow the picture with Mamaia is the Neptun resort. * in fact, the name is of Turkish origin (Doubroudja was for a very long period of time an Ottoman province). The Turkish name was Mamakioi meaning Butter Village. There is Mamaia Sat (The Grandma Village), and in the old days the shepperds used to take there sheeps into that area... and sheeps do give milk too. Oh, and the Romanians named once a part of Mamaia beach Tataia (The Grandpa).

More from Romania. But from earlier times.
2 girls with a lot of makeup in the '30's Lido Swiming Pool in Bucharest (the 1st swimming pool with waves in Romania (1936) - it's not working any longer) 2 women in swiming suit. There wasn't a name or a location on the back of this photo. Could be on of the lakes from Northen Bucharest or Snagov Lake (around Bucharest). Here are some pictures taken by Willi Pragher, an Romanian-German photograph in 1943 and 1944 at Bragadiru Lido from Bucharest (the lido was later renamed Izvor ([Water] Spring) - it was near Izvor Street). The lido was teared down during the '80's - Nicolae Ceauşescu's demolitions. Willy Pragher moved to West-Germany after W.W. 2, but he camed back into a trip into the '70's and made some pictures. August 1941 And 29th of August 1943 (not sure that the blonde girl is Romanian) This time a girl on the shore of the Black Sea - 1941-1943. This picture was made by an officer from the Kreigmarine (he took pictures in Constanţa area)

In this film, around minute 0:43:30 you'll see Romanian Actress Vaslica Tastaman in an one pice swiming suit (she died on 30th of September 2003; Florin Piresic, the actor which is with her still lives). B.t.w., most of the images are taken in City of Hunedoara, Hunedoara County (City of Hunedoara isn't the county seat; Deva is).

It' s a pitty that this image isn't at a higher resolution. You can distinguish her's pussy, but you can't admire it very well, becuase the image isn't bigger
