70's & 80's Letters to Penthouse
I'm new to this forum, so I'm going to tiptoe around the subject of my first post a bit, so as not to offend anyone or inadvertently break the rules.
My question is, do any of you guys remember the letters that were published in Penthouse back in the 1970's and 1980's? I'm talking about the forum section of Penthouse magazine proper, Forum magazine, Penthouse Letters magazine, and Penthouse Variations magazine. I've seen paperbacks which were supposedly republished Penthouse letters from this era, but none of the letters published there were familiar to me--and I was an avid reader of Penthouse publications back then. Some of the topics that got regular treatment back then are things the government doesn't like people talking about nowadays--hence my not being too specific about what I mean. Other topics dealt with some very specific fetishes--again, I won't say what unless you folks actually want to know. Nobody, and I mean nobody out there seems to remember the letters I read in Penthouse back in those days. Does anybody here remember and want to reminisce? |

I remember a few spin-offs from P-House(please don't spell it out) called The Best of PHouse Letters which would sometimes feature two or three models in amongst the letters. Of course I didn't bother with the letters as most of them in many magazines are so obviously faked-but a lot of the Letters magazines weren't too bad, I think Charmaine Sinclair was in one of them with a small set. Men Only also did it.

I remember those letters sections... P*nthouse wasn't the only one that had the section, but was the best one...
Most, if not all of the "letters" were fake though. I was dating a splendid redhead back in the late 80's after I got out of the army who supported herself as a freelance writer. Several men's magazines would pay her between $20 and $50 a "letter" and she was quite prolific in her writings and did quite well doing it.

Now, what is it you're looking for? *Disclaimer- unless you are a high ranking politician or diplomat, in which case your every mouse click is being recorded, to be released to the press when it most suits your opponents. *Disclaimer #2- Just because you happen to be paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you. Have you noticed any Black Helicopters recently? No? Good, they're supposed to be almost invisible. *Disclaimer#3- We're not watching you, and I'm not working for the agency that definitely is not watching you. OK, Simon?

I agree--PH's letters were definitely the best. I saw on Anthony Bourdain's TV show "No Reservations" where he met up with an author who spent part of his career writing letters for PH.

What I'm afraid the gov't might not like is things such as the depiction of teenage sex in such letters. (I would make a distinction between teen sex and kiddie porn, but I dunno if this site sees it the same way.) We all know that in the real world, teenagers actually do engage in sex, but we're supposed to pretend that they don't. In adult films nowadays, actors over the age of 18 can't even portray characters under the age of 18. If that isn't a violation of the 1st Amendment, I dunno what is--but when it comes to adult entertainment, the 1st Amendment doesn't seem to be applied in a logical or consistent fashion. Well, that's the main thing I'm dancing around, but of course, this could be expanded greatly. Anybody out there remember how PH regularly covered fetishes that other men's magazines didn't go near, then or now? |

What I remember the most was that, as the years went on, more and more of the letters revolved around guys watching their wives get nailed by other guys. I'm assuming this was because such letters generated a positive reaction from the readership.

I'd be interested in more written or sound porn. The Penthouse letters were, in their day, exciting reading; I often got off more to them (inspired by the photo sets, of course) than to anything else. I also really like hot audios; naughty stories read aloud by young women who are really into the material and know how to read aloud. Is such material on the Forum and I just can't find it, or does this call for a few new threads?

I dabbled with writing some of these letters. There were the fastest way to practice the writing trade and see your work published. Gallery magazines letters were another example. Once you read their columns it was pretty easy to see what themes could get you published. Of course, it DID help to like writing them and living vicariously. I think the best stuff came from personal experience and personal fantasies
