There is a force known as the Coriolis effect which is a force that is caused by the rotation of the earth. It was thought in the past that when a toilet is flushed in the Northern Hemisphere the water swirls down the drain in a different
direction than it does in the Southern Hemisphere. This has proved to be in error now. Scientists took two toilets of the exact same type and manufacture and did an experiment. One of the toilets was flushed in the Northern Hemisphere and one was flushed in the Southern Hemisphere. The water in both toilets swirled down the drain in the same direction. It was determined that the Coriolis effect cannot work on such small forces as water swirling down a drain. It was determined that the water in some toilets that swirls down the drain in different directions is actually caused by imperfections in the design and manufacture of them. The Coriolis effect can change the rotation of larger forces like tornadoes and hurricanes, and major windstorms over oceans.

The Milkyway Galaxy and the Andromeda Galaxy are speeding towards each other at over 250,000 miles per hour. At that speed you could travel to Moony McMoonface (or Luna depending on your politics) in less than an hour.

The current trajectory will result in a direct collision. However, even at this unbelievable speed this won't occur for around 3.75 billion years. The NASA site has a fun little video depicting what the collision will look like.
