Default Just an observation

'Hokusai's "The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife" depicts a sex act between a woman and a cephalopod, which is bestiality. Bestiality is forbidden on VEF for good reason: some governments have declared it illegal. Allowing it here would cause big trouble for VEF and might cause VEF to go away, which is certainly not worth the risk.'

VEF is a vehicle for an amazing range of material and it's interesting to see how VEF reacts to external censorship control/pressure. I can understand that the approach of not being contentious or breaking obvious (or perceived) rules is the safe option. Especially if being closed down is a real possibility.

However, with regard to the image which is referred to as the Dream of the Fisherman's Wife, it has been in the mainstream media circus for over a year now, since it appears in graphic colour in the film 'Handmaiden' (which I found very evocative). It seems odd perhaps that some (including Amazon, Netflix, etc) and no doubt others are showing this image within the context of the film, and consider it perfectly acceptable.

I'm sure many here have already seen the film so I'm surprised that no one has posted a similar response to this image before.

I did post it a while back, and a mod said "take it down"-- so the experiment has been run.

I didn't argue the point. Context matters. A museum can show edgy content with far less fear than a board devoted to erotica, because the context in which a board might be challenged by an ISP is very different. Basically someone complains "there's a girl getting tentacled" and now the board has to tangle with an ISP who really doesn't care at all what's being shown at the Tate.

Similarly, a museum might show the Lewis Caroll/Charles Dodgson's photo of a young Alice Liddell, which you wouldn't want to do here . . . where the threshold of suspicion/ for suppression is lower, one treads more carefully

. . .and because no post in this thread should be all text, I attach some Japanese shunga (erotic art) with absolutely no tentacles.

A few years' back the British Museum did an exhibition of Japanese erotic art . . . did anyone here see it?

Default Sugimura Jihei -- Japanese Erotic Art

This stuff doesn't strike me as that arousing, but its very nicely done, you can appreciate the artistry even if these wood block prints don't deliver much wood. The Japanese really liked their erotica, and they produced a lot of it. I'll try to organize stuff by artist, jumbling it together isn't that helpful.

"Sugimura Jihei (杉村 治平) was a Japanese ukiyo-e printmaker who flourished from approximately 1681 to 1703. A follower of Hishikawa Moronobu, Sugimura illustrated at least 70 books, and created a number of large size prints along with many of the more standard sizes and formats.

Judging from his extant works, it appears that Sugimura, who preferred (unlike most ukiyo-e artists) to use his surname rather than his given name, specialized in shunga, or erotic prints. Some scholars judge his personal flamboyant and decorative style to be even more erotic than that of Hishikawa Moronobu. Sugimura often hid his signature in the folds of women's clothing."
Note in particular the extraordinary scroll. It the fifth row down, third image. In the thumbnail it looks like nothing at all, but its a scroll with many pix, quite an achievement.

Default Gustave Klimpt

Gustav Klimt painted some amazing sexy / erotic pictures in his time which have inspired contemporary imagery in turn. Here are some results taken from The Life Ball which was an AIDS fundraiser event you can see more images from here: http://www.ifitshipitshere.com/life-...klimt-to-life/

Default Identify print in background of image?

Does anyone recognize the unusually explicit erotic print in the background of this image, posted by cuzzyman927 in the vintage blowjob pictures thread?

To my eye it looks to be done in a kind of mid-20th century social realism style -- but I'm not an expert. I tried google image search, but got nothing.
