No disrespect intended but England need to move forward rather than going back to the grey old days of bringing back 35- 40 year olds. We seriously need to find some new blood, especially at 1 to 3, with Root moving to four.

We will also need to look at some new quicks with Andersson not getting any younger and the gaps between Broads wonder moments getting longer each time. The spin department also needs looking at as well, we need to decided who we are going to use rather than chopping and changing.

This series has proved not everything in the garden is as rosey as it once was.

Sounds like we need a seniors ashes tour

Baylis would have him at 7 as insurance judging by the current team

Post World Cup Baylis will get the sack for mine

Had I been a gambler, the sort that all the ads on $ky appear to target, a flutter on the first afternoon when England were 86-6 and to win the game would have given great odds.

Such is the 'beauty' of Test Cricket - admins do take note.

And it is somewhat ironic that the player who would not even be playing had it not been for an injury claimed, and deservedly, MOTM - plus a special medal for impersonating a test no.3

Which of course leads on to the next Q. If, indeed, Jo is putting his foot down and insists on batting at 4 (maybe the inherent weakness at the very top had some influence there and he did appear out of nick himself before this game) there is a vacancy at 3. I do not see any of the present team appropriate there. Bairstow, sans gloves, could have but he is pouting now he has lost them and really should be rested for the dead rubber to let the pinkie get better.

And had Jennings done enough ? It was a tradition that come the 5th Test, with nothing to lose, new players would be blooded just to see if they had what it takes.

Over to you selectors.

One thing is clear its time to dump Rashid as Root appears not to want to bowl him, he has also virtually been a passenger in this series, with Moeen doing more in one than he has in four.

Possibly time to look for a new top three for the future, maybe even try some new faces at the Oval, or at least give Pope a bat, but not at three, he could replace Bairstow to allow his finger to heal.
