You misunderstand pretty much everything about economics.

There's a tiny amount of cobalt in a phone. Tiny. About 20 cents worth. That's it.

A lot of cobalt happens to be found in the "Democratic" Republic of the Congo-- which has long been one of the worst governed countries on the planet. That's got nothing to do with mining-- its just a place with a long history of political disasters.

Stop the cobalt mining-- and it just becomes "a horrible place with zero international interest".

I'd add that you completely ignore the ways in which smartphones have revolutionized communications in Africa.

Never 20 cents. That's the price given by a slavedriver.

You do not understand anything. That's tragic.

I really would like to see the face of Bruce reading your messages. (As long as he's not an insincere singer)

Your comments look like the comments of the most extreme right politicians. Nothing social. A pure egoist. Me, myself and I.

Defending animal and people exploitation, glad to waste energy and destroying the environment of the future generation... and... you miss not having children.

Don't you see the absurdity of your behaviours?

You do not understand anything. That's tragic.

I really would like to see the face of Karl reading your messages. (As long as he's not an insincere thinker)

Your comments look like the comments of the most extreme left politicians. All socialist pipedreams built on quicksand. A pure dreamer. Marx, Engels & Thee, the unholy trinity

Fantasising about defending animal and peoples rights, expecting them and energy to be provided to all freely in a system that only exists in 7% solution dreams and whining about destroying the environment of the future generation whilst wasting valuable energy on the interweb ... and... yes I may occasionally miss not having children but I never let it rule my life.

Don't you see the absurdity of your behaviour?

Not sure what your point is.

There's very little cobalt in a smartphone-- 5 to 10 grams.

Cobalt, for all your hyperventilating, isn't exactly rare.

The problem with cobalt mining is that you find the biggest deposits in the worst country. You don't like the conditions of mines in the DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo), but do you think anything in the DRC is less than awful?

This is a spectacularly awful country from a governance perspective and human rights perspective; that has nothing to do with Apple, its just the way the DRC is.

There are some big cobalt deposits in Australia too. Because Australia is a better place, they're undoubtedly better places to work. But then, its a helluva lot nicer to do anything in Oz than in the DRC.

I would expect to see a lot of money go into Australian cobalt . . . no one has looked too hard for it in the past, but with prices on their way up, that's how markets work. Under development now are big projects in Greenvale, QLD and Kalgoorlie, WA; I'm going to bet that you'd rather work there than in Kolwezi, DRC.

Default Ouuukey... I will not even read all this anti-academic nonsense. I'll just leave it here.

Anti-Communists are stupid by definition. If the communist system (even in its defective "Stalin" form in the USSR) existed for another 20 years ... we would have imposed a very serious competition of the Western model. In fact, we have already imposed. The idea of a "welfare state" and an increase in the average person's standard of living in the west is a consequence of competition with the Soviet Union. Capitalism? Paid education, exorbitant payment for medicine (hi Medicate and Medicare - Obamaсare), the closure of access to power and property to entire clasters of the population (often on a racial basis). Western liars like to carry nonsense about discrimination in Russia ... Yes ... it's very interesting to hear it from people in countries where the segregation of the colored population ended 20-40 years ago. Very funny. teach us tolerance. In our country for hundreds of years, 100 ethnic groups lived side by side with each other. The American's brain melts when he is told that a Tatar can be Russian) or a Chechen ... Dagestani, Ukrainian (in the end). He objectively can not understand how this is possible.
And now to the point. Try to read the works of I. Wallerstein, Dos Santos, Prebisch, Amin. You have a hero of the economy - stupid Mr. Friedman, whose neoliberal model collapsed in 2008 and continues to crumble now. What is the West economically. The countries of the center that exploit the periphery countries. The theory of socio-economic formations of Marks in action. Polarization ... where the "ruling class" of our time is the conditional west (the countries of the "center"). OK. How? Through - the disparity of currencies, the use of cheap labor in the periphery countries (while millions of Congolese people die, receiving pennies on rubber extraction, yesterday's colonialists are talking about human rights violations in North Korea or the same Kongo). The truth is that even the Putin regime - the west is profitable. Oligarchic capitalism does not allow us to develop our own industry. It is a system of dependent capitalism. Our resources, brains, money (in the form of securities) flow to the west. You scold Putin here - you pardon (* diots) must be pray to him. The periphery is an exploited economic donor. I would have looked at how a nearby American manager (the gray-faced gray-collar worker) would have 2 cars per family. if millions of Chinese did not create gadgets for Apple for 1 yuan per hour. Your countries would have to give up a lot of benefits. And I would have looked, as an average-American black-skinned smoker of grass, would have started to work and this conditional "yuan." Would not. It is easier for him to sit on the allowance that his government provides him so that he does not break cars in Baltimore (lol).
And one more thing .. the theory of socio-economic formations underlies modern historiography ... which ensures its importance and gives it scientific character. Concepts of Popper and other delusions (civilizational approach - Toynbee, Spengler and other antiscientific dreamers) for gullible mindless idiot does not hold water. The theory of stratification? Say, there are no classes (working class), hence Marks was not right. Idiocy (hand-face) ... The fact that the average manager sits at a table with a fountain pen instead of the machine behind which his grandfather worked ... does not make him any different from the working class of the first half of the 20th century. He does not want to esthetically relate himself to this new "working class". He was given social guarantees (due to the exploitation of third world countries) ... he was given tits, cable and high-speed Internet. But he was like a shameless dumbass, so he stayed. And if tomorrow, for whatever reason, the economic dominance of his state goes to waste, he will again come out onto the square with the usual slogans.
People with a compilation of designers and photographers in this theoretical outline are better not to climb at all. Their Intellect is not one to talk about such things. They gathered to criticize Marks, Trotsky, Lenin... - clowns, pardon guys. Really Find the North Korea or Ukrine on the map the first time. At such limited people in the brain stupid propaganda of the times of Truman. "Better dead than Red". Good luck with that. And the future of the whole world is a moderate form of socialism. Either we will understand this, or we will destroy each other in the interests of those who have 1000 dollars - toilet paper. Thats all...

Think what you want of Capitalism but Communism collapses every time it has been tried as it always leads to totalitarian states where everything is micro managed.
It's human nature for some people to want to be top dog even in socialist states so you will never get a state where all are equal; we have seen how those leaders are no different from the worst Capitalists you could name.

I did not hear the answer on the merits of my message. Learn to read something. that will be more difficult 3-4 words in one row. Communism collapses not for internal reasons ... but for reasons of external pressure. But there is no one to explain this. The level of discourse is too low.

Communism - according to Marks - is a socio-economic formation. It should replace capitalism - everywhere. Not in a single country. In fact, you criticize what was not. You have no idea about the essence of Marks's concept ... based on the objective laws of dialectics. At best, we can talk about state capitalism, socialist practices of different orders (the USSR of the Stalinist model, etc.) ...
