You're right of course, Melvin.
But actors are generally very 'creative' about their background,
and I guess porn actors even more so.
I suppose the article might be written with the information available at the time.

Or, even more likely, the article was written without ever consulting or asking Brigitte anything, cobbled together with bits and pieces of info available in other magazines and, for the rest of it, simply invented. As I've written elsewhere in this forum, I used to do freelance writing many decades ago when I was bumming around Europe and on several occasions I was commissioned by agents to invent some interview with a porn star or "backstage reportage" (I've never been on a porn set in my life, but I've "reported" on quite e few ), or things like that. All totally mde up, all total bullsh*t. Who cared? Not the agents, not the editors: Writing for "Big Boner" magazine (or whatever) wasn't exactly a commission to provide an article for the Encyclopedia Brittanica, fer god's sake.
For much the same reasons I'm always amused when some really devoted fan tries to get "accurate" information about some pornstar they're a fan of. Enjoy them for what they are. Like Annette Haven, who over the course of her career gave several different birthdates, ranging from 1948 to 1956. It's all make believe (Oh, and the ladies usually don't have real orgasms, either.... Just as in real life! )

These sort of mags certainly contain a lot of nonsense regarding porn stars. However, it's not always all nonsense, so one can piece a real picture together from sifting through such articles, with a lot of caution and a bucket of salt. As a regular reader I can often tell when such an article is complete baloney - these articles typically fail to reveal any real information at all.

You're right. Brigitte was born in France, and as far as I am aware, so were her parents. Somewhere down the line though there appears to have been a connection with Flanders. This is from an interview she gave where she talked about changing her name:

"At the time it seemed like a good idea not to keep my real surname, partly because it was unpronounceable, and partly out of respect for my family. To do porn in 1976 was to court trouble. Besides, at the time certain members of my family were very shocked at what I was doing... My real name is Van Meerhaegue. It means 'more of the hedge' in Flemish. For my career in porn I dropped the 'more of' and just kept 'the hedge' ['la haie' in French]."

I don't speak Dutch, but it sounds plausible. Sarkozy has Hungarian and Greek heritage, but no one would deny he's French!
