I was using avast for years, but the false positives got ridiculous. When it blocked my isp's email server, I binned it. I'm using Panda now, seems ok. Anyone know of any issues with it?

I've run into the same problem with Avast, so I uninstalled from the Control Panel, plus ran a script from SevenForums that deleted the remaining registry entries (all AV programs are hard to uninstall, always requiring some sort of utility to fully remove). I then installed AVG, and as reported with other AV programs, Imagebam loaded fine, with no viruses or unwanted advertising (I have AdBlocker Plus installed within Firefox as well).

AVG seems to be a little slower, especially with updating, but most reviews have Avast & AVG pretty much equal in sniffing out malware & viruses, so I might try AVG for awhile. I switched to Avast since my previous program was blue screening constantly in Windows 7 64-bit. I do have a concern with the pop-ups with AVG being more aggressive in wanting to change my home page to Bing, rather than Avast's merely getting in the way with a banner at inopportune times.

My conclusion is that Avast is the problem, though, it's popping up with HTML false positives. My virus warnings stated that there was an offensive line of JavaScript that Avast didn't like, but I couldn't tell what it did. The false positive reporting function didn't work either, since it didn't accept the piece of JS code as being a possible false positive.

If Avast gets this fixed, please report, as I may consider going back to Avast if they get their act together.

It´s always the same. Maybe tomorrow a new thread on VEF: Virus on VEF?!

Who found it? Yeah right Avast.

There was a set of photos I found the other day hosted on Imagebam. When I tried to download them Avast blocked the site and gave me warnings. I wanted the pictures so I disabled Avast and downloaded them. Then after restarting Avast I ran Malware Bytes (on my previously clean machine) to remove... (wait for it)... the malware that Imagebam had dumped on my PC. Sounds like Avast was doing it's job if you ask me. I get very few false positives with Avast. Been using it for years and haven't gotten a single infection that wasn't a result of bypassing it.

The real problem is these garbage file hosts.

I use Firefox with Kaspersky anti-virus (and set on High security for operating in dangerous environments), and I have not encountered one single threat alarm or warning with Imagebam or imgbox images which Avast users are presently receiving.
I'm getting the alarm on any picture from IMAGEBAM, I opened. Not on thumbs at VEF..

Let me ask one logically question to this:

Why does IMAGEBAM change their script to run into some trouble? This can't be only cookies ! I /We don't had such problems before.

At other picture services like IMAGVENUE or PIMP & HOST and some local Picture Hosts I don't having such problems at all.

I don't profess to have the answers, but logically since Avast had been so reliable, and since this problem never occurred before and only recently started with you and others, some change with Avast's system must have taken place.
Does Avast have an email/help contact? If so, I would recommend trying to contact them and advise them of the problem which you and others are experiencing. Who knows, they possibly may be unaware of the problem.
It seems impossible and difficult to believe that so many images are containing threats/viruses, so one would be inclined to believe that the problem must lie with Avast.

A few weeks ago my Avast! was warning me of threats (false/positive ) from ImageVenue images, then they managed to sort that out, and now the threat warning is being issued to ImageBam images. I'm thinking the problem is with Avast! This situation is very worrying because I have never encountered any serious problems with Avast! until recently.

Default ImageBam Problem

Fearless Leaders of the venerable VEF-- Question.

Anyone else having grave difficulties with seeing pictures on ImageBam over the past two days? I have Avast anti-virus, and I get warnings that the site has been compromised. This is the same with Firefox or Chrome. Has ImageBam been the target of hackers? Or has my anti-virus gone beserk?

I think the evidence is clearly in your favor.

Currently I have to disable the "Web Shield" option on Avast 10.3 in order to use the web as multiple sites are blocked.

Given that I have several other web security measures in place, I'm not too concerned about giving up the belt and suspenders approach for a little while.

For those who don't have other defenses, it might be worth taking a break until Avast solves it's obvious false postives issue.
