Being in the US - Dr Who was somewhat sporadic, even on "Public Television".
The first few I did not enjoy at all, but I have come to like Jon Pertwee. Re-acquainted with Who under Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith. Have not seen Capaldi. So far I like Tennant the most, but I have enjoyed most, esp now that every distant planet doesn't look like a Welsh Coal Pit. As long as the new one retains the quick wit and wry humor, then why not?
Funny, I imagine most folks I know here would probably say "Dr What?" but my close friends are the ones that have Tardis playhouses for the kids and sonic screwdriver or tiny Tardis salt and pepper shakers. (But no, I am not that hard-core. If I catch it, I'll watch it...maybe)

Me thinks one is missing the point on this matter for comedic effect. Still, according to this article here there was an actress playing Henry V in a recent staging of that play, following a line of actresses playing male roles in Shakespeare plays. Also, interesting enough, an actor in the same staging of the play playing Katherine of France - but I believe that would have happened back in Shakespeare's days.
