From what I know, it's not illegal to be a Marxist according to UK law. So, why should anyone hide the fact that he/she is a Marxist?

On last Sunday there was an Radio report about... Liverpool.
I was very surprised to learn that was a very very very left city, which was not very good friend with Tatcherism.

Liverpool was an industrial stronghold once with a long history of organized labor. It was hit hard by Thatcherism. I used to be a big fan of Liverpool FC until it was bought by some US corporation and turned into a mere brand. It might as well be a toothpaste now.

Brecht - Marxism like Facism is not a popular pastime in the UK. 'The British are not intellectual. They have a horror of abstract thought and feel no need for any philosophy or systemic world view.' George Orwell wrote that in the early 1940's and it still holds good. Political extremists are viewed as being geeky, little sad souls sitting in bedsits dreaming and plotting of how good life will be come the revolution and how they can tell everyone what to do then.

I was a student in the mid 1970s and then went into industry. I can remember the various groups at uni - all older than the rest of us, full of hatred and spite, busy telling everyone how bad the government was (it was a Labour Gov) and how we must all take direct action. They hated the Jews (and said it was Israel they didn't like)and cheered Palestinian terror attacks, they marched in London in support of the IRA and they slandered anyone who didn't blindly follow them.

In Industry my union was one of the leading moderates. Even then we had periods where the supply chain was broken by other peoples strikes, led into it by people who only wanted to disrupt.

You don't live in the UK then matey. The one good thing about the extreme right is that they are Stupid. They are so stupid that one has to be very stupid to support them. The left on the other hand keep telling everyone how much they love people and the dimmer ones believe them.
