EU referendum: 430,000 apply to register during extension deadline
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politic...endum-36496047

I'd have expected a few thousand but nearly half a million

Considering how high profile this vote is we have no shortage of gormless chumps out there who did not know they were not registered and presumably many first time voters who had not completed the annual registration form

No matter what the result the losing side will cry foul and depending on the margin this extension could be the crutch they lean on.

I just hope these lazy somnambulant sods can actually be bothered to get their weary arses down to the polling booths now

You may well have decided quickly how you will vote but while there is the possibility of someone being undecided or changing their opinion the circus will go on.
Relish in the fact you are part of history being created for generations to come and allow people to have the discussions to help decide.
It's not the Referendum ITSELF I have a problem with. I do understand the huge significance of what's happening, and the effect it could have on modern society for years (or even decades) to come. This is an historical event in British history, and I dispute that.

It's just the endless coverage on TV, Radio and the press that I find boring.

This is kind of what happened to the 2012 Olympic Games, when you saw people saying "Only a 104 days to go until the Olympic Games". If all the press were doing it at the time people might start to get a bit bored of being reminded of the obvious all the time, the result being that my the time the games started a lot of people had already grown wary of hearing about it by then.

For me it's not the CONTENT of the conversations it's the LENGTH, and if you spend just a bit too much talking about it to the public to me there's always a danger the APATHY might start to set in, so that by the time of voting people might start to lose interest it what's already.

To me the same things happening here. I already know how important this referendum is our society, I just don't like having to be reminded EVERY DAY by the UK Press who feel my memory span lasts just 24 hours.

It's the media coverage that bores me, not the referendum itself.

I WILL be voting on 23rd, and the thing is after hearing literally HOURS of people on both sides talking about the negative and positive aspects I feel that I have enough information so has not to hear another word about it for the next two weeks.

I saw that too.

My GOD! What an irritating, self-righteous, sanctimonious little man he is!

By the end of the show I just wanted to get hold of him and PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE!

I don't know if you saw it, but even the audience were getting so fed-up with him that at one point someone in the audience actually shouted "SHUT UP!" at him!

I've been watching this show for years, and if I'm honest that's the first time I've ever actually heard an audience member actually shout SHUT UP! at someone!

I used to like him, but after last night I've really gone off him now. I thought he use to be funny, but last night he just came across has rude, arrogant and opinionated!

Given the number of referendums across various member states that have gone against the wishes of the European Council have been ignored, or re-run until the people gave the 'correct' answer, what do you suppose will actually happen after we have voted to leave? 1. The referendum is re-run 2. The referendum is ignored 3. We 'leave' the European Union but maintain all current legislative and financial arrangements but have obvious benefits of membership removed as punishment for defying doctrine until we beg to be allowed back in. 4. We actually leave and actually go our own way and actually start owning our own infrastructure and future. Or something else?

@morerules, I wouldn't be surprised at it being re-run if the 'Out' vote is a tiny bit more than the 'In' vote.

You know, just to 'double check' that the several re-counts hadn't been 'messed with' by the evil, racist, nationalist 'little Englanders'.

I would not expect any re-runs if the 'In' vote is a tiny bit more than the 'Out' vote.

I'm fairly sure that in the case of 'brexit', the EU and USA etc. will trade with us in a way that is meant to damage our economy and make us want to re-join.

I'm also fairly sure that the Brit Govt. will pretend that several crises will be caused by Brexit, and they'll use the lie to 'scare' us back in.

Once we do, we more buggered than we are now, as we will have to give up the pound as that's one of the rules of new members have to follow when joining the EU.

I'm pretty sure that our economy will be strong enough, and certainly our, what will by then, previous membership will be enough for us to be 'allowed' to take the Euro.

I'm not sure for how long the ability to 'opt out' will carry on for.

If we did go back in, our Govt. would probably call the Euro the 'Europound' or the'BritEuro' or the 'PoundRo' or something stupid to try and make us want it.

We're bloody minded. If we vote 'out' and the politicians try to re-run the referendum, people will just vote 'out' in larger numbers. I don't expect a second referendum, but there could be other jiggery-pokery.

Option 4 would hopefully be the outcome but for me I would hope for more involvement by the public in protecting our democratic future.
If vote leave wins on the 23rd that should not be the end of it.
It should be the beginning of a restructuring of our whole political system.
I hope that we the people of the United Kingdom will not stand for those who argued on false facts and untruths to remain in the EU to negotiate our exit strategy. If that means joining your local MPs political party to voice an opinion at conference it may be a good start.
I would prefer a vote of no confidence in the government and the bringing in of a general election to decide who takes us forward.
Would you trust Call me Dave and Bent neck George to make a deal?

I can't help thinking that many people have been astonished by the degree of blatant dishonesty displayed by British politicians in recent weeks . Especially Dave and Boy George, who have come out with long streams of obvious untruths almost every time they have opened their mouths. Even Nicola Sturgeon who is a strong supporter of the EU recognised their tactics early on and commented on what was taking place.

Meanwhile, the media, such as BBC TV News and ITN appear to be working hard to present a very muddled picture of what's going on and what's at stake. It could be argued that this is cleverly engineered to generate uncertainty, with the intention of making Joe Public feel obliged to support the authoritarian establishment.

There is simply little truth and honesty to be found on TV at present, just endless speculation, street interviews with people who always seem undecided and what appears to be a ban on certain issues like criminals and terrorists we cannot deport and the growing issue of hundreds of thousands of Muslim immigrants flooding into Mainland Europe who may want to come to the UK in due course.

This week, BBC TV for East Anglia went out their way to highlight the EU workers in Wisbeach, Norfolk from places like Poland, Latvia, etc. Naturally, they are well-educated, speak good English, work hard and like British society. It's difficult not to like these people!

However, the politically correct BBC has carefully avoided strong Muslim areas like Luton, that seem to have rapidly rising populations and increasingly look like regions that belong in other parts of the world.

Whether or not the inhabitants of these locations will ever want to fully participate in British culture is another matter, but it seems probable that the EU will be seen as a conduit for followers of Islam wishing to settle in the UK, while bringing little of any real advantage to our society.

Then there is Turkey waiting in the wings for EU membership, something seemingly favoured by “No ifs, No buts Dave” in recent times. Unfortunately, this is a very troubled place, in bed with some dangerous neighbours and hardly a shining example of human rights.

After the extension to online voter registration, which had all the hallmarks of being stage managed and a senior Tory MP deciding she could no longer support an exit from the EU (what was the deal here?), I can't help feeling there are still more tricks and tactics in the pipeline, especially from the stronger Pro-EU establishment.

What I will predict, irrespective of the outcome of the referendum is so much political discord in the immediate aftermath that a general election won't be too far down the road. This means the leaders of both main parties will almost certainly have to step down or be pushed out.
