Oh yes Tarkus-I can see the reasons now...
(1) bushfires (2) tropical cyclones (3) drought (4) economy in a worse state (5) can't keep the same Prime minister for more than about 5 minutes (6) lone wolf jihadi events (7) incompatible political systems All those things we're been missing out on-its an absolute tragedy! |

This is Bob (or maybe Son of Bob), so named by a German girl who stayed here for a while. I was out working in the garden once (which is in itself worthy of note) and was sitting down having a break. It was hot and I had my shirt off. I felt a leaf or something on my shoulder, looked down to see what it was and one of these things was staring back at me from about 2". I was cool though. I jumped about 3' in the air, he jumped about 4' and we shot off at a rate of knots in opposite directions. They cover a huge amount of territory during the course of a night. That's probably because (a) they don't spin webs because they're too big and (b) they have to consume so many mossies, flies and bugs to maintain supplies. It's rather disconcerting when you go to bed and Bob's down one end of the house, and next morning he's up the other end. Last edited by Tmee2020; March 3rd, 2015 at 08:19 AM.. Reason: Spelling |

Yes, right, that tease will likely back-fire on me pretty soon, but. An aside: a NZ parliamentary select committee toured Oz investigating the option of joining prior to Federation in 1901. In their report they argued against the idea in significant part because of the racism they observed, particularly in parts of Qld.--e.g. against immigrant labourers working in the sugar-cane industry. Sadly, they were perhaps blind to the racism that existed then (& still in parts today) in NZ. |

There was movement in the party, for the word had passed around
That the thug from Northern Beaches could not stay He had told so many lies that the punters all had found That they could not believe a thing, he had to say So the politicians plotted from locations near and far As the centre fought against the rabid right They all agreed the thug was becoming more bizarre but they knew he'd not go down without a fight Turnbull had made his pile from banking and the law But he'd lost out to the thug some years ago His plan was just to wait, for the thug to meet his fate He had the numbers, but wanted more, to run the show And Bishop from the west, played at sitting on the fence Though she thought to throw her own hat in the ring She was quick to take offence as the thug became more tense And with Malcolm she could stay on a good thing Some others liked their chances and they jockeyed for a place Scott Morrison and perfidious poodle Pyne They gave the thug some space but knew he'd run his race So they positioned to survive in Turnbull's line But others from the right, thought the thug might win the fight Andrews, Corman, Brandis, Hockey and Robb But by far the biggest fear was for their own career As Turnbull might relieve them of their job As the leaks came in a flood you could smell the scent of blood Even Murdoch's mob were calling for the end While the thug was sticking fast, his fate was ready cast It was not a case of if, but only when |

Putting it into context-that's about 2/3 of the width of the US-or almost the distance from London to Moscow. Would the US consider annexing the Canary Islands? Or the Azores? And I look forward to Tarkus enumerating the potential benefits....in detail |
