Gaudi.....wow! Dali....mad as a fish....WOW
When I was a student back in the dark ages I had poster sized reporductions of Metamorphosis of Narccissus, sleep, and Elephants relfecting etc on my college wall. Still at college I went to an art house showing of the film La Vallee (Obscured by Clouds) and I found a lot of the imagery, particularly the mudmen very powerfull. About ten years ago we managed to get to Barcelona where we stayed with friends and I did the whole tourist Gaudi thing. Strange thing is that I cant look at Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell orCasa Batllo without hearing Pink Floyd playing in my head, particulary Burning Bridges from OBC. Barcelona, Pink Floyd, a belly full of deep fried chillis and a skin full of wine.......... I agree with all posters about Gaudi, Dali, Picasso.......so much talent.....so much joy On topic and slightly odd in this company Eric Morecambe |

I think some of musicians I have missed are Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Hendrix, Bon Scott, Randy Rhoads, Keith Moon.

[QUOTE=dbailey;1065579]Gaudi.....wow! Dali....mad as a fish....WOW
When I was a student back in the dark ages I had poster sized reporductions of Metamorphosis of Narccissus, sleep, and Elephants relfecting etc on my college wall. Hey, DB, I was offered a signed Dali print of the elephant with long, thin legs at an exhibition in London. They wanted 2 grand. But the trouble with Dali prints is that he spent much of his latter life just signing blank canvas. There is even a story of a printer recieving a stack of blanks and, halfway through the printing process, he discovered some of the banks weren't siged and he signed them himself. |

Just a few of many ...
Grace Kelly was one of the most beautiful women ever lived on this planet. There was many classic Hollywood beauties for sure - but she was a special star.
Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven - three geniuses in the history of music. I often ask myself what typ of sound this music titans would create today. As far as I know only Graham Chapman died. But Monty Python is buried with him. It's a pity. Benny Hill - I loved his slapstick comedy. He was part of my childhood and youth. Also this three funny guys. Thanks for making me laugh, Moe, Larry, and Curly! Martin Luther King and Mahatma Ghandi shouldn't be forgotten. Also Oskar Schindler. Also Sophie Scholl, her brother and all the other resistance fighters in Nazi Germany. We shouldn't forget every person that helped to make this world a better place. Sad but true: many of this persons never was photographed or filmed by a camera. They didn't act in public - and often died in silence. Unnoticed from the public media, never personally mentioned in a history book. Thanks for being there! Last edited by Leprechaun; April 14th, 2010 at 11:36 PM.. |

I just got my copy of "The Yellow Shark" when I heard Frank died. Zappa was returning to his early influences of Varčse, Webern, and Stravinsky with the clout to hire a top flight orchestra, Ensemble Modern, with the great conductor Peter Rundel. Zappa enthusiasts argue Frank realized his potential completely in his 53 years, but given another 20 years, I think he would have composed some mind-blowing avant garde orchestral music. He might have done some amazing things with computer music too! So I was very sad when he died before his time. |

Visionary artist he may have been , and one of my personal favourites that's surely true. But boy could that guy ever dodge a check. In the latter years of his life he worked out a method of never having to pay a single bill when out and about. The tales go he would turn up at a fancy Spanish bistro with his usual mini army entourage , order the most expensive foods and extravagant wines. Then at the end of the evening he would flamboyantly and loudly request the bill, which since it was Dali the manager or owner himself would personally come over to bring. Where in Old Sal would praise the evening he and his friends had enjoyed , praise the establishment and in particular the man holding the bill . He would make great play of pulling out his check book and filling in the amount, dating and signing it all the while heaping praise. Then just before handing it across he would turn it over and do a quick sketch of the man before him. Which completely overjoyed the owner ,who would profusely thank the maestro for the generous gift. That he would then either frame and hang on his restaurant wall , or do the same but at home for all his friends and family to see. Never cashing it
